Suunto Vertical Titanium Solar: Reduced Solar Harvest Efficiency Over Time?
-
Hi everyone,
I’ve been happily using my Suunto Vertical Titanium Solar for about a year and have been very satisfied with it overall.
However, I’ve noticed a change in the solar harvest performance. When the watch was new, under the same sunny conditions, the solar harvest indicator would often show High or even Maximal levels. Recently, in what appear to be similar sunlight conditions, I’m mostly seeing Low to Medium solar harvest values.
Before

After

Has anyone experienced a similar decrease in solar harvesting performance over time? If so, did you identify the cause or find any solution?
I’m wondering whether this could be related to sensor aging, changes in calibration, software updates, dirt or scratches on the solar panel area, battery behavior, or simply seasonal differences in sunlight intensity and sun angle.
I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences and any recommendations for troubleshooting.
Best regards,

@mehmetalidurgay I’m having the same behaviour with the watch than you, the max level that I see is medium. I think it is a bug in the widget that does not show the real harvesting. I think that because when the watch is under the sun the bars show solar harvesting.
I’ve read that some people have has their unit exchanged because of faulty solar panel but I do not know if the issue that they noticed was the same than us. -
@mehmetalidurgay I see max on mine the last time I used it. I will check this again tomorrow. There have been reports of the wire connecting solar collector to the watch internals failing and some have had their watches replaced. You could contact support.

@Brad_Olwin Brad, please check. I can only get medium in my watch but the bars with the accumulated harvesting acan be filled to the top. I still have 3 months of warranty, so I would use it if necessary.

@cosme.costa Don’t have enough sun yet, will soon and I will report back.

Call me a liar but I had this problem once with Vertical and in very sunny spring day and I had medium all the time, two days in row. I thought it’s broken too, I hit it with my finger few times into screen and it started to show max. Probably just luck, but after that it was show full in this type of weather. :D. I’ve switched to Race series so can’t check it

@Tami999 I’ve tried soft reset ans also als have hit it with the fingers and nothing. I’m getting mainly low and medium charge when the sun impacts perfectly in the watch and not always.

My V1 Ti Solar is now 2.5 years old and my widget (the full screen one) regularly still shows full charging, and with full bars on the graph too, so I don’t think it is necessarily a generic ageing thing.
On the other hand, it is known that solar panels lose efficiency with time - maybe it depends how much exposure to sunlight / UV your watch gets?
