Has anyone used Stryd App / Stryd Duo in combination with SMHR2?

When I do this, it seems I get no balance data in Stryd Power Centre.

And in the Suunto App it looks like GCT is coming from the wrist not the heart rate belt.

When pairing the pods to my iPhone instead everything works OK, so that is always an option.

I am struggling with if the pods are worth the extra effort. But at least for now I would like to track LSS and balance metrics.

      Any hints would be appreciated

@matram Stryd should independently store the workout metrics apart from GPS in the pods itself. You will need to do an offline sync afterwards to get the balance metrics with the workout.

I dont have the SMHR2 but I have used stryd duo with my Race 2 for a while and had no issues.

Are you running with power? If so, then you can very well just return the HRM and get a cheap one with no balance metrics. If you aren’t running with power, return the pods. The watch’s GPS is completely fine.

I am not running with power. The Stryd Pods are old and have been sitting on the shelf for some time. This was a (temporary) attempt to get some additional information on running dynamics. I agree that just using the SHRM2 is probably good enough.

I had synced data from the pods. The file cache in the pods is empty.

My best theory is that there is some interference between the SHRM2 app / belt with Stryd. But I unsure what source of the 3 available (Watch, SHRM2, Stryd) populates the fields in the FIT file. I asked Googles AI and that was a very long and frustrating discussion 😧

Did another attempt today. Documenting the result here if anyone else is struggling with this.

            First approach

Stryd Duo paired via the SuuntoPlus Stryd App. Manual sync of pods after the run. Stryd PowerCentre holds one file, but it is the Suunto file. Stryd data appears lost.

            Second approach

Stryd Duo paired directly to the watch. Polar H10 belt. Manual sync of pods (footpath seems to sync automatically). One file in PowerCentre with merged data. What came from where:

From the watch, unchanged: power, heart rate, speed and distance match the watch file on every second. GPS has been filled in so there’s a point for every second.
From the pod: ground contact time and its balance, vertical oscillation, step length, Form Power, Air Power, LSS and its balance, VO and impact loading rate balances, Impact, and Stryd’s own speed, distance, temperature and humidity.
Time alignment: Stryd lined up the pod’s data with the watch’s. The pod’s speed matches the watch’s speed best at a shift of about 6 s, which fits the watch smoothing its speed.

@matram Stryd confirmed that the Stryd app causes data loss; the Suunto watches, even the newer devices with more powerful hardware, can only record six fields at per S+ app, and a maximum of 3 apps (so in theory, 18 fields). The pods emit 19 fields, so when Suunto wrote their Stryd app, they picked the six that are recorded, and the other 13 fields are - literally - lost to the wind.

Your second approach is the Stryd-supported method, per their support.

                Thank you for confirming.

I have now also tested with the SHRM2 belt and the Stryd Pods paired directly. This combination also works. But the Running dynamics from the SHRM2 tracker are of course from the belt not from the pods.

What do you use for feedback on pace, cadence or GCT during the run?

@matram Yes, unfortunately Suunto doesn’t provide native support for stryd and its metrics. Because of that it wont populate the suunto activity with its balance metrics unlike Garmin or Coros.

The only way ive found to actually see these metrics are by performing an offline sync after the workout is synced to the stryd app. But this is not very convenient if one does not rely on the stryd app for training and analysis.
