Last night I reviewed sports on my (still new) Race S.

At the end, the swipe down move gave mi the current list of sports or activities available. The last sport or activity reviewed was the first appearing at the bottom of the list.

Today, on Sunday, I decided to walk. For a long time. Walking is my favorite activity since I’m trying to cut down car driving time and stay in shape.

While a bit in a hurry I thought I activated walking (with GPS and everything included). Alas, I was wrong, it was stretching, which I did in the morning. So I did a few start / pause cycles blindly under my jacket sleeve, not verifying that I’m actually into the walking activity.

When I finally saw that I was in the stretching instead of the walking, it was too late. My today’s effort was ruined. Then I remembered that Race S probably automatically counted steps.

      To my surprise, it didn’t!

I was so, so dissapointed. My other watch Amazfit Active 3 premium does both things automatically at the same time - walking + GPS route (when activated explicitly to do so) and steps counting (automatically, without any intervention). Race S doesn’t. So I walked around 400 steps only (while I was still at home). All other steps during the 2+ walking tour were not recorded.

This is the second problem with Race S. The first one was not tracking sleep, which I solved by reinstalling the firmware and by hard resetting the watch.

This one puzzles me. Why would watch stop counting steps when in other activity (this time in - stretching)? Why?

@birdie because it was requested in the past that the watch would not record steps in this mode, considering that people seldom walk while stretching, but often move their hands, and this would record unwanted steps.

@isazi Thank you for answering quickly.

People do walk while stretching. 🙂 Think of stretching your arms while walking. Just look at football players at training.

I activated stretching by mistake in the early afternoon. How? When I activated the screen, I swiped down to see sports / activities. As I did stretching this morning, it remained at the very bottom of the list. BUT, now I realize that the bottom of this very list transfers to the upper button to which I assigned walking (short press) before, and map (long press).

Therefore, the assignment of an activity to the upper button on Race S is not fixed, meaning, whatever sport / activity is activated by swiping down the main screen and this sport / activity remains at the very bottom of the list of sports / activities (i.e. was acivated last), this sport / activity will be immediately assigned to the upper button of the watch.

A minute ago, I swiped down the screen, chose cycling, let it start and stop. Then I exited this sport, pressed the upper button and there was cycling again, replacing walking, sport / activity assigned to the upper button previously.

While this may be common logic on Sunnto, I don’t like that. I would like to fix one particular sport / activity which I want to monitor the most to the upper button until I change it manually.

Perhaps there is a way to do that.

This upper button behavior is described in user guide:

“from watch face, press to open the menu for last exercise”
