Route navigation suunto 5
-
After creating a route on app and transferring to watch I have not been able to follow as watch can never find it. Has worked once but only once. Tried syncing watch with app, updating software. Making sure gps working, on performance mode etc. Funny thing is all other navigation fuctions work fine so like poi’s, find back and breadcrumb.
I get a directional arrow screen in screen centre and thats it. Unable to zoom in.
Iv even walked along a route for half an hour and watch still could not find it.Any ideas??

Let get more info: go twice in the watch menu to “Navigation” and then routes. Is there the route?
- Yes, try to open
- Open ok, press navigate
- Error opening, problem with the route
- No, synchronization problem
- Yes, try to open

If suzzlo’s questions are answered, then maybe you are facing the route cache issue in the watch. Let say you are trying to navigate a route but the watch has another one in memory and try to lead you far away.
If you just tap on navigation screen, do you see the whole route? And is your current GPS position far from that route your watch is showing? -
Before starting the navigation make sure route shape in watch navigation screen is the same as the route you’d like to follow. So far it’s buggy ie if route synchronisation did not complete for some reason.
-
Thanks, I do get an image of the route but then quickly goes to just an arrow in middle of screen.
Do you need to have your phone with you for the watch to follow a route?
-
@Mff73 this sounds like what im experiencing. So next query, how do.I solve a route cache problem in watch?
-
@S-Boardman can you confirm you’re not having an issue described here: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/4953/suunto-5-unable-to-add-route-to-workout-kayaking-navigation-watch-fires-up-stand-alone-navigation-outside-workout-instead ?
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel yes its not this issue
-
@S-Boardman if you’re having a cache issue, create two or three routes named a, b, c and having a path looking like a letter a, b, c.
Sync first one with watch, wait until the map stops flashing in SA and you don’t see synchronisation marker on the watch.
Go to navigation, find the route, preview it - if it looks like the letter matching the name, you can create your desired route and sync as usual (let it sync, don’t use the app when it’s syncing, give it some time, around 20 seconds).
If the route preview on the watch doesn’t match the letter from synced route, try another one (b, then c, etc.) until the synced route matches the one in SA.
-
@S-Boardman , not better than @Łukasz-Szmigiel
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel sorry, whats SA mean
-
@S-Boardman Suunto App.
-
Ok done that. Sync 3 routes to watch. When preview on watch none of the 3 matched shape of the route.
-
Tried again and now preview on watch matches shape of route.
-
@S-Boardman did they differ from each other? If they did, try some more until route shape in the watch matches the one you synced.
-
@S-Boardman OK so you should be good to go. Try creating an actual route and sync it. It’s shape should match the one sent from SA.
After you’re finished you can unsync the abc routes in SA (give it some time).
However don’t delete them from SA until you’re positive they’re gone from the watch.
-
Generally with current firmware and SA versions this process is a little bit delicate but it works if done right.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel 2 out of 3 matched
-
@S-Boardman you may need to recreate the routes from scratch and give them a new name.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel thanks, ill keep trying. Do I need to have my phone with me whilst navigating a route?
