Something new is coming

@bbx100 we Spartan owners are not demanding. We are already happy with a new watch face
and a bugfix, maybe?
-
Should I understand that that update will be release this month?
-
@tomahawk5000 yup.

@moe67er said in Something new is coming:
@Egika and as I said I just say what I see and that is the headline weather on that watchface. And weather prediction only based on barometric pressure on the watch is hardly reliable and for planning a long run I would always recommend to use local forecasts. It is a nice gimmick and shows you the current barometric pressure, not less and not more. If pressure drops by a huge value within a certain time, maybe a storm is incomingâŚbut storm warning is an already implemented feature as I remember right.
Temperature measuring with the watch and without a pod away from your body is also measuring just anything, but not a reliable value because it is a mix of environmental and body temperature. The value has no significance.
Hey man. There is truth in what you say. I understand well
But look at it a bit different of you like.
You can measure the temperature, if you like and that requires you to take off your watch and wait a few minutes. Itâs not bad Todo so. You could even not get obsessed with wearing the watch all the time, and put it hanging etc to get a good reading.
You can as well check a lake temperature if you like before your dive.
Regarding pressure. Well here Iâll argue.
Having lived in the mountains with no good forecast I could and always used the trends.
Sure there are areas that have good hyperlocal weather such for example Netherlands. It would be silly there to base on pressure.
If something doesnât work for you, or is of no use doesnât mean it ainât also for others that would like to have it.
You made a critical point before about stryd metrics. Let me inverse it a bit.
I have used stryd, I used to be an ambassador for runteq and one of the first of milestone pod. Arguably many users like you could use the stryd metrics, I have used them a LOT on their own app when needed , but I lately donât care at all and find them silly. However I never said donât make this feature. I want it for others to be happy, nor would I go to any brand and try to raise my opinion of not being useful.
And that is all about it. Something new comes, there was no promise. Let people who like it be happy. Why devide? Perhaps next time something you love comes.
Letâs wait for the update, and then the next one if santa remembers us.

@moe67er I disagree with your statement about weather. In the Colorado Rockies we often have thunderstorms that are local and not easily predictable, certainly not precisely predictable. The barometer readings can be extremely helpful to predict those storms and have already worked for me. A second issue is when you are out for multiple days. There is no cellular signal in the majority of our mountains. Having a weather predictor can be invaluable.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
I admire your patience while arguing to multi critisizers. -
@moe67er it says weather - not weather forecast.
You might want to check the definition of weather.
Pressure and temp are part of it.
Itâs the metrics, the watch can measure. It canât so with precipitationâŚ
If this data is not useful for you, that is fine (while I still wonder why you need to tell this to the worldâŚ) -
@Egika
@moe67erHonestly here , this was not an easy name to pick.
-
Maybe you shouldâve gone with âClimateâ. Canât see that causing any problems.
-
@Fenr1r I was not involved at least
-
@Fenr1r climate is the statistical weather data over many years. Does not apply here.
But who cares about the title. The information page is important, and if this is an S+ function, it should be recorded with the other data?! -
@Egika And a sentence delivered without an emoji may still be a joke.
-
-
@Brad_Olwin and those warnings are already implmented as I stated above in storm warnings, isnât it? This feature is nice. It raises an alarm and you can react. But on a trailrun or skimountaineering day I never check barometric values while I am out. I do it before⌠also for 3 day trips. And when I know there could be a bad weather it is ok.
And as said: storm warnings for e.g. fast incoming summer thunder storms are great and this feature should be implemented by all watches having a barometer. but I do not need the values of the barometric pressure itself. -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos HahaâŚwhat other use cases can we create? Temperature of the red vine after the tour?
Do you guys really run out into the mountains and after 2-3 hours you think: Oh wait, what weather do we have today, maybe I should check my baro? But you all plan and create your track in the app and upload it to the watch. Doesnât make sense to me
That runteq company⌠I have the belt of them and waited long time for an update they promisedâŚand of the app. Did they release already what they wanted to do? Never checked after waiting so longâŚ
Regarding Stryd:
Why not just recording everything it delivers that you can use it with a short workflow and not syncing forth and back over several platforms? Suunto, and this is my opinion too, wants to be the one with an easy to use user experience!?What would be used more often barometric pressure readings or structured intervals? I donât know⌠Suunto will have done the homeworks with questionaires and forum post upvotesâŚ
I just say my opinion and do not try to convince someone. I am just a still disappointed âuserâ and wondering about people here partying features former Suunto watches, other brands watches have but do not improve the use cases of the S9B (for me)
-
@Egika well, seems to be a wording issue. Maybe Barometer would have been the better headline if they did not intend to use it for weather prediction based on barometric values. But if not, I really have no idea what else you can do with it âď¸
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I think so. Especially having people interpreting it in many different ways (and I never thought that WEATHER together with barometric values can be so versatile interpretable)
-
@moe67er the barometer during activities has been requested many times in this forum. But apparently whatâs not useful to you canât be useful to others, my Lord
-
@isazi the way people partying that feature should also allow others to ask why exactly this function and for what. Nothing else, little servant⌠do not want to convince you not to use it.
When I used my S9B in 2018/19, other features were on top of the wishlist here in the forum. Maybe people are getting frugly
-
I hope not all new features will be regarding weather. Baro is a must for me, but storm alarm never worked, not on previous Ambits and not on S9B. Elevation is always perfect, but storm alarm goes nuts when I finish my run in mountains or after big descends (more than -1000m in one go). Not always of course. But never when storm arrives
