So, what are you going to do after Movescount closes?

@sebchastang I completely agree with you. And if there is not any plan to support those app data at least, they could give the possibility to download the app data and so we could use an external program to represent the data.
Perhaps they have not enough software to do the calculations (I suppose the calculated files for apps are stocked at their site), perhaps they want to sell other products, perhaps…
I imagine that users will never know the truth because they aren’t never going tell us.
.
Suunto App has been seriously improved during the past months but it really lacks support of Suunto Apps data.
Some people around this forum kindly suggest me to use other tools like “openambit” or “golden cheetah” but it seems a bit complicated.
We need a single place to handle our moves and associated data.I was a bit frustrated to lose route creation functionality in movescount web (due to loss of ascent and descent info) but there are other tools / websites to do it and we can also manage by using import / export GPX functionnality in SA, movescount and others sites.
But we have no alternative for Suunto Apps data. Those data seems not to be synced with SuuntoLink or SA .
I don’t understand why it is so complicated to include those apps data in the graph of the move in SA. Each custom apps has a result and it is recorded just like other data (speed, distance, …)
It should have been taken into account from the beginning. We can consider a new app for managing data but not for losing data! -
@ramón-castañer-botella cadence should be there
-
Yes thanks. I’ve found it. The problem is that all in the mobile phone screen all things are small and difficult to find.
It is ridiculous to change for a display in a big PC screen of 21 inches or more to a small screen of 7 inches at maximum. -
@francescobaldi It is simply a business decision. And it is a watch, not someone’s life or health. I just think there should be some perspective on this.
-
@brad_olwin Of course, the question is if they are going to loose or to gain with this decision in a long term.
My Ambit3 still works and possibly I will continue using it. But when it breaks I will change for brand. In fact, I have bought a Garmin for my son some months ago.
-
@ramón-castañer-botella The decision is made, and not all think it was a bad decision. I’ve stated many times how the S9 baro is a huge step up for me from the Ambit line.
-
@brad_olwin
absolutely agree… of course things could be better and depending on someone’s background (mine: development) you always would find something to improve, honestly everywhere.
details on the bikes, ski bindings, watches, software, even kitchen machines or details on ski jackets and pants… I even modify thembut it is as you said, it’s not about life or death… hence I try (!) to follow the rule: change what you can change and learn to accept what you can’t change

@andré-faria All of the above will not apply if you have Windows 7 installed on your PC, Suuntolink will not work for me and Moveslink 2 stopped working yesterday, I have an Ambit 3 paperweight, I only bought it before Christmas.

Windows 7 64b and Ambit 3 Peak.
I’ve used Suunto Link with no issues today -
@andré-faria I tried a lot of things yesterday, the program opens up but is not seeing my Ambit 3, Win 7 Ultimate 64bit

Strange.
I even had moveslink2 and suunto link at the same time without issues.
Maybe related to cable no?
If you want/can you can always upgrade to win10 for free still. -
@caldirun It’s worth mentioning that Windows 7 has not been supported by Microsoft for more than 1 year. It was released 12 years ago - an eternity, in the IT world. It’s not receiving security patches, no modern application will be developed with specific attention to Windows 7 compatibility - and I would argue that any computer running it should probably not be connected to the internet.

Where would that leave XP? there are millions of pcs still running old systems. I have many legacy programs that still work fine and do all I require of them, I have a Run Log on Lotus Approach that has 24 years of data in it, do you suggest throwing it away and starting again. Microsoft just use it as a scare tactic to frighten people like you, I have never had security problems, its pure bull.

I have never had security problems
At least none that you are aware of
-
@surfboomerang If I am not aware of them then they were of no consequence, I think I may be wasting my time trying to connect to Movescount now. The Suunto Apps that I have used for years will no longer work? I can’t see my latest moves in Movescount (apparently its written everywhere, sounds very Biblical to me!) The Android App is useless, if I try to look on my phone it says “watch busy” what use is this? it only updates after I stop the exercise. I have to go back to my Honor Magic Watch 2, at least it has a decent App and gives my stepcount for an exercise and my mileage. The Ambit 3 that I bought before Christmas has been obsoleted by this Suuntolink/App, I have owned Suunto devices since 1998 and have always been impressed. They have tried to dumb down and compete with the mass market, I suggest they return to a niche outdoors/ explorer format that they have always been.

The Suunto apps will still work but associated data (logs) won’t be synced anymore with Suunto App or SuuntoLink. It has already been discussed a lot on the forum and I am disappointed just like you and all other people who use those apps and associated data
Really embarrassing to lose such a feature for our “old” watches.

I am lost, how can you say they are working when its impossible to get the data from them? I have to extract the stepcount for each of my moves since 02/02/2021 (The Day The Ambit Died) The stepcount is using my App and the readings from my footpod, its not displayed on the Ambit 3 after a move is stopped, its not displayed in the Android App, I can’t get the data into Movescount. How is this App working if I can’t get to see the data? unless I write it down just before I stop the move, great idea! or I could multiply the duration in minutes by twice the Cad, Hey I could write an App for that, Oh I already did but its stopped being displayed. Suunto have lost the plot, I’m dumping the A2 and A3 and going back to my Honor Magic 2 watch, at least I will get my stepcount and mileage, I will have to calculate the lost data from this last week.

Hello caldirun,
I understand. We are a lot of Suunto Ambit/Traverse users to complain about this and I totally agree with you.
There is a lot of topics and messages on this forum regarding the loss of this feature.
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/4186/suunto-apps-http-www-movescount-com-apps-logged-data-on-move-graph-in-suunto-app-android
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/5298/ambit-apps-showdown
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/4505/in-the-new-suunto-app-is-it-possible-to-use-apps-that-were-created-within-the-suunto-app-zone-in-movescount
and many others…But it’s like that . You can still display Suunto Apps on your watch but you cannot sync the logs anymore.
I don’t know if it will be fixed in the future but I really hope so. -
@sebchastang Hi sebchastang.
With respect if they are going to fix the data apps problem, at first I was thinking they did this “Ambits downgrade” as a maneuver to sell more their new products. But the result for them I think it would be the opposite that pretended, I mean, many users are going to escape from Suunto brand.
Now, I suspect that the problem with Movescount is more a software or hardware capacity of the site and its expensive maintenance costs. -

Now, I suspect that the problem with Movescount is more a software or hardware capacity of the site and its expensive maintenance costs.Hi ramón-castañer-botella,
I don’t think it is about maintenance costs because 1, 2 or even 3 more apps data won’t significantly increase storage or other costs compared to default data + other PODs or sensor data (that some users use and some other don’t).
I think it is more due to the fact that Ambit/ Traverse family watches is old and as this feature is not supported by new watches, Suunto think it doesn’t worth the required development to integrate apps data in Suunto App.
We can understand this as there will be less and less owners of Ambit/Traverse in the coming years. Moreover, Ambit/Traverse watches will probably no longer be sold in the next months.
But I think it is unfair to brutally be deprived of this feature overnight as it is still actively used by a lot of Ambit/Traverse owners and we plan to stick to our old watches for a couple of years more.Once again, it is about data loss. It’s the same for someone who wouldn’t be able to get data from HR sensor or PODs.
I like Suunto, I think they build great products and I’m really please with my watch but I think Suunto doesn’t realize how important are the Suunto Apps from Ambit owners. They made something powerful with Suunto Apps to extend capabilities and it’s hard for us to heard it’s over now.
