Suunto 9 Peak

One question/remark about the VO2MAX estimation providen by the watch. As we all know, that estimation is always very bad once we run on trails or with a lot of elevation.
One solution would be to:
- either not calculate vo2max once watch detect too hilly or too technical paths
- either let user decide if we want or not an estimation during the following activity.
-
@v-sacre just make it a switch similarly to how OHR switch is implemented. “Calculate vo2max” on/off, per activity.
-
Just got mine, it is so small, light and thin compared to S9B. I’m thrilled. Still have to try it in the field, but first impression is great

Office acceptance test validated : the 9peak fits well under a shirt and is much less thinner than s9 baro
[edit] I didn’t see before this two painting defects on the wrist support. I will have to return.Lol… you have to drink a beer with the suunto factory worker…
-
@dušan-ković You’ll get used to the size. I’m wearing mine for1,5 week now and I think I already love it more then the S9B.

I agree one week for me but only if you have not your s9B any more
-
@zhang965 yes with the painter for a quick paint touch-Up
-
@surfboomerang yup, I like it better than S9B. I forget that I’m wearing it.
I sold S9B the same day.
Faster sync with SA is great. I lost all my custom sport modes, that is real shame. I hoped that I won’t have to setup everything again.
-
@dušan-ković backup would be nice (it has been requested in the forum). However custom modes between different watches is a bit more complex, as screens are different and may support different custom screens.
-
@dušan-ković completely agree for the customs sports mode
I had to create them in Movescount (!) to not forget them… and then re-create them in SA… ️ -
@dušan-ković I’ve had my S9P for almost a few days and have a few first impressions, questions, and feature requests. I’m relatively new to the forum so I don’t know if this is the most appropriate place to post these. My apologies if it would make more sense to mention them somewhere else.
First impressions:
• The watch and build quality is wonderful. I love how thin and light it is. Coming from a Spartan Sport (non WRH) I’m still getting used to the smaller screen but I love how sharp the screen is.
• The buttons are better than I expected when I saw first pictures. They’re easy to press and crisp. They’re also click louder than I expected.
• The optical heart rate is (so far) much better than other optical heart rate watches I’ve tried (over the past year I’ve bought, and returned: Polar Vantage V2, Polar Vantage M, Coros Apex Pro, Suunto S9B). It has done very well running and riding the trainer, though not as good strength training.Questions:
• Is there any way to have the first day of the week set to Monday? I already have the first day of my week set to Monday on my iPhone but can’t seem to have the S9P start on Monday. Any tips?
• Does the resources algorithm adjust over time? The watch apparently thinks I’m active or stressed all the time. My resources are at or close to zero pretty much all day. Does the First Beat algorithm get a better feel for me over time and adjust?Feature requests:
• I think it would be great to be able to rearrange the order of the screens available when pressing the down button. I.e. the current order is: heart rate, resources, steps, training, altitude, sleep, fitness. I would love to be able to reorder those.
• The weather data page in Suunto Plus is awesome. I would love for that to be available as a screen you can access by pressing the down button (meaning an option within the list in my previous comment).Overall it’s very nice!

Use UK for example and it will be Monday (I do that as I don’t use Greek or US eng ).
However we are working on a setting for that eventually. - Yes it does. It depends afaik on sleep and HRV. From what I have been told and observed it takes a 6 day buffer depending on sleep hrv to see when you are resting etc.

@isazi @ink357 I understand, but saving them and telling users that you won’t be able to use certain screen or feature is still better than deleting 8 (or more) sport modes… I expected that to be backed up to the cloud because why not? It is not rocket science Check if watch support screens and fields in sport mode, if not alert user that they won’t be able to use particular field and replace that field with some default field I wish I made MC copies of my sport modes. Now I have to create everything from scratch
I had one 10 hour overnight hike with S9P. The watch is invisible, you don’t feel it on the hand and it doesn’t catch clothes. Really incredible of suunto to fit a lot in the small watch. Adaptive backlight is great. My two buddies had S9Bs and both of S9B showed bigger distance than S9P. I wish I had both watches on hand and check GPS accuracy.
SpO2 readings are at best questionable. They really need to make that sensor work better. At this point is mostly unusable data.

Nice work Suunto!
Apparently the S9P is a popular device -
Reportedly, the S9 Peak VO2 max is underestimated/or less accurate compared to other sport watches, Sunnto’s and competition’s. Does this have to do with having VO2 max technology licensed from Firstbeat and/or poor implementation?
-
@kukubau I get the same VO2max with the Peak, the Baro, Garmin, and also a Cooper test.
-
@isazi I do not, my Peak and baro register much lower than Cooper or lab tests. But that is because 99% of my runs are below Aerobic threshold and on trails.
-
@brad_olwin trails must be the reason, my VO2max drops considerably every year (according to the watch, doubt it’s real) when I go to the mountains
-
@isazi Trails will bring any road runner into reality:)
