@cosme-costa @Mff73 there are different zones for running and also for default sports, those ones were never counted, because VO2Max was only including running, right?

Regarding zones ring, they should be added, not only in navigation, last day was checking burnt S+ feature and I completely miss the zoned

For those that do not use the zone ring for HR we would not want it added to the Navigation screen as it uses valuable space. So there are those of us that do not want it.

@brad_olwin maybe a customizable option for custom sport modes then?

😕 …then another old request: higher grade of customization?! …toggle for the HR dial?
or let’s agree on 2 values to add there: HR and ascent rate 🙂

@freeheeler That would be even better! Last weekend I was running along a route never run (nor walked - all in an urban environment) before trying to stay in (power) zone 2, which was a bit of a challenge but would not have been if I could have activated the zone ring on the navigation screen. Maybe different types of navigation screens if customising a specific screen is too difficult/not in line with strategy etc?

@freeheeler that would solve it. Actually, I and a couple others have asked for NGP to be an intensity zone. If that happens I’ll be in your camp.

I started looking at NGP a bit more recently since I think it gives me a better idea (in relation to avg HR) than VO2max… but as you know, I’m a pure amateur 🙈

observed today: ran a route today with navigation. it went down the same way as it went up. half way down the navi arrows showed correctly back home but the alti graph showed as if I was running backwards down again 🤔

I noticed today that NGP must be something that behaves similar as avg ascent rate would behave over the entire activity, is that possible? or am I completely wrong now?
avg ascent rate on a round trip would be 0m/h. NGP is to balance out ascending but also descending pace, right?
today my uphill was quite slow but I felt that my downhill was even slower as the risk of twisting ankles was relatively high.
in this case I found that overall NGP was pretty useless as I tried really hard while going uphills and in the end the NGP was something around 8:42min/km…
would you recommend to separate up and downhill in 2 activities when it becomes technical?
                      thanks for your input 🙏
…I know it’s not the perfect thread for it… but we somehow started this topic in here 😉

Hi all, i have just noticed that during the Suunto9B watch update the app requested a total reset of the watch…so now i still have the trainings history in the app, but lost everything in the watch… also the sport profiles and logs…Is this something normal ?
                        Thanks

yes, full reset means factory reset and after that everything is gone and can’t be synced back. that’s what’s normal.
what’s not normal is the watch asking for this.
check the next time if it happens again.
                          I’ve never had this issue.
One trick that I’ve recently learned to avoid unwanted behavior seems to restart your laptop after Suunto Link has been updated and before you update your watch 👍

@mff73 I just have checked and like @freeheeler the zones are still the same.

If nothing changes, on Saturday and on Monday I want to do some trail runs with good ascent, will see how it behaves.

                              Thanks!!

                              Well, I think that VO2max, at least for me, is not working well with Trail Running. On Saturday I run 20.1 km with +1048 m, 6.06/km pace and avg HR 156 ( 23% Z5, 56% Z4 and 18% Z3) and my VO2max 55.5, then on Monday I did 20.86 km +989 m, 5.59/km pace and avg HR 152 (15% Z5, 51% Z4 and 28% Z3) and VO2max went down to 54.3, so 1.2 less for what I consider quite similar conditions.
My VO2max was fluctuating around 58.5 normally before the firmware update, which is quite accurate with my last lab test (59.9). The new values are really going against my feelings and times/pace.

@cosme-costa maybe some hiking or walking in between afects it ?

while you mention it: I did an uphill “run” followed by a downhill “run” without starting a new activity and VO2max went down compared to my previous activity.
I couldn’t go any faster uphill and HR was very high compared to my usual rolling runs. but the descent was very technical and I could barely walk, it was sometimes scrambling.
I understand VO2max as the maximum possible. But if things like slower pace or a “weak minute” during a run impact VO2max, then it would rather be a VO2average, no?

and similar question for NGP. I assume descents are also normalized. while we can run faster on flattish descents, the steeper it gets, the slower I run, especially on dirt, gravel or even loose rocks and dried leaves.

I think so, too… NGP for downhills will work for downhills where you can run my that much faster as it would slow you down in uphills.

and I think I will never understand the VO2max calculation 😉

@freeheeler I wish there’d be a toggle for that. Or, just like polar does it, a set of dedicated tests without the use of firstbeat’s fancy algos.

…I will do the Polar VO2max, soon. Last time I did it (with verity sense) it showed a very poor result as I did it few hours after a run. Since it is based on rest HR and I have a quite high post workout HR, I suspect it was not as intended by Polar 😉
