S9P gets stuck in the "Saving" screen after finishing a session

@Efejota said in S9P gets stuck in the "Saving" screen after finishing a session:
@jjpaz My S9P seems to be much slower and stucks there from time to time lately. Last time it happened trying to save an exercise where the strap did not record any HR as it run out of battery. Never completed the updating HR info screen. I had to soft reset it, for the third time in the latest weeks (never had to do that before). I would make a hard reset if I were not losing my personal sports configuration.
All in all, my experience is that the watch has become laggier with the latest firmware.
I second that view… it is very annoying lately and becomes worse when enabling the 24x7 HR and the notifications.
-
@jjpaz I have not had this occur but the testers get frequent firmware updates to test. I am running a S9P on production firmware to test. My last test at a race in British Columbia with long recording was fine.

@Brad_Olwin i have just experienced the following
pressed start at the activity, the activity never started but I realised that some 10 minutes down the line. The watch then crashed and reboot itself. after the reboot the training counter for the week zeroed and on the watch face I don’t see any large dots for Sunday, Monday and TuesdayI just sent the logs to Suunto
-
@Brad_Olwin Do you perform periodically resets (soft or hard) to “clean” the device?
-
@jjpaz
In fact, he’s installing new firmwares frequently -
@jjpaz on my production watch, no I do not reset. I will wear it continuously for a couple weeks and report back.
-
Interesting topic! I thought it was my imagination, but I also experienced longer times when an activity is saved I didn’t record that many lately, so I wasn’t sure … I did a soft reset. We’ll see how it goes today
-
By the way: Could updates be made optional? I really don’t like to be forced to updates… Being a developer myself, I do understand the reasons for it, but as a customer I still don’t like it. Typically, I’d never run an update immedtiately, but wait a few days to see if there are any issues.
-
@Simon
the updates are not being tested with customers but with a fieldtester team.
some rare bugs can still exist, but I see that my watch is running very stable and waiting for couple of weeks doesn’t make sense to me personally. neither does installing only the second latest update. -
@Efejota That’s my impression too, it seems that the watch is becoming laggier day by day.
For example, in this last month, when I start and activity with Route Navigation activated, I’ve checked 3 or 4 times that if you switch screens between altitude screen and the route screen the screen freezes in the middle of that transition between screens, and you have to push central button to recover the screen, the touchscreen doesn’t work until that. It’s a bit weird. Also when you start activity pushing upper button it takes several seconds (5sec?) to start the activity screen and several seconds to show the heartrate data (6-8sec?)
I’m thinking applying a hard reset to restore default settings and “clean” all the data and compare the behavior.

Always been like that, the watch starts recording but the screen changes to the activity after few seconds, so it has nothing to do with the latest firmware. However, I heard Suunto is working on making this faster

I had the same issue today with the latest software installed and Suunto HR belt. The watch hanged on syncing hr data screen and I had to perform a soft-reset after waiting for 15-20 minutes. The result was to lose the activity.
@Suunto team: Apart from any software issues that can be related with this, it would be useful to have a skip option on this screen, so when such issue occurs we can just skip the hr data and save the activity with the rest data.
-
@Panagiotis-Kritikakos Are you sure the watch hung, if using the Smartsensor it re-syncs HR data to capture anything missing. Sometimes the watch face will go blank. Give a couple minutes to make sure.
-
@Brad_Olwin The watch was on syncing hr data screen, showing being in progress without getting a blank screen. I waited for at least 15-20 minutes before doing a reset. After the reset the whole activity was lost. I have submitted logs some time after the incident.

I’m not sure it is true, that watch is recording. I have S9 baro. I was on a race, my gps was fixed and I saw HR belt connected with my HR in zone 1 on starting line. I press start button at real start. In activity I can see start later few meters and HR started even later already on top of my zone 3

@Panagiotis-Kritikakos Sorry to hear this, the next update should take care of this problem. However, it has not happened to me on release firmware. When a crash happens, send logs to Suunto as soon as the watch is connected. PM me with your username, the time and date logs were sent and if possible the time and date of crash. I will file a bug report with Suunto.
-
@Brad_Olwin Sure, I will should it occurs again.
-
@Brad_Olwin New crash today, third time in two weeks. I sent logs to Suunto after soft reset and sync.
Thanks -
Just to give an update: I recorded several activities and can’t really confirm that it takes too long on my watch to save. S9P always took some time for saving an activity, but it never failed for me and I can’t say if it takes longer now than before any update.
Cheers!

After the third “crash” 11 days ago I performed a hard reset 10 days ago.
Since that reset it seems that the time it tooks to save activities is less than before.
Perhaps when the watch is full of activities (or low free memory) it takes more time to save also it can cause a crash if empty of memory.
Just my point of view…
