Suunto 9 Peak Pro?
-
@mountainChris did not even notice it. It looks like 9pp is indeed not shiny around top bazel. Interesting.
Does it look less shiny on top?
https://youtube.com/shorts/VFd0_6--m4U?feature=shareMaybe @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos can confirm this for us? Thx

@zhang965 Oh lord I was expecting some refinement to the screen but that massive black inner circle looks even more prominent. Disappointing! I will keep hold of the S7

Well…for the Bezel … Maybe we can get a minimum bezel for s9ppp

Check a new future : Visual Studio Code Suunto Plus Editor , pair to specific non-standard devices …

I wonder if s9 will get gen2 now,
9 line already has 9,9b,9p,9pp, which larger than other Suunto série…
-
@zhang965 we still need 9ppp, 9pppp, 9ppppp, and so on, and so on…
-
@isazi
and S9PPLB - peak pro less bezel -
@omunoz haven’t read Ray’s review yet. Suunto developer tools will, at least for now, not make public and only available to Suunto partners to develop apps.

Is it really fair to complain about Suunto’s bezel?
Yes, Suunto watches have a fairly wide black ring around the display, but then most if not all Garmin watches have a big bezel surrounding the glass. They simply moved the bezel outside the screen to gain the additional space in the watch body, where Suunto kept it a bit cleaner instead. Both Fenix 6s and 7s have exactly the same screen diameter as the S9P(P ) (1.2’') and are both only a mm narrower according to official specs. Is that additional half millimeter on each side really what ppl complain about? Would it really be so much better if Suunto covered the area with something just so no black ring shows?
I personally like the clean look of the S9P and definitely prefer it over a bezel with printed instructions (up/down/back/light/start/stop).
-
@MoeJito still I do hope the bezel would shrink a bit in future gens. Or make it somewhat useful at least: solar panel, or maybe an led or customizable text, whatever.
-
@DMytro Agreed. I just don’t think any of the competitors truly does it better at this point, except maybe the latest solar versions.
-
@MoeJito I disagree with ya. I guarantee you (and everyone here) would be happy if Suunto made a bigger screen and fix the bezel issue. If Suunto could somehow retain the size but reduce the weight of the 9 Baro, they’d 100% be in the game. With that said, processor wise, they’re headed in the right direction. I personally think the 9 Peak Pro is something of an experiment. Kinda like the Garmin FR 945 LTE and the EPIX 2. I’m tempted to buy the 9 Peak Pro when it releases, but I can’t help but think Suunto has something bigger coming and I’m gonna need the $ for it.
-
Am I the only one wishing Suunto would bring back the 2missing buttons like the 5 the great and powerful Ambit3 used to have. Long presses or swiping the screen to go back is a half baked solution. The back button was cleaner and quicker for navigation. Also, as others have mentioned, a lock option is a must on the time screen. Not everyone where’s it as a watch all the time. I keep mine in my kit bag when travelling to events and it drives me nuts it starting itself.

Wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. I’m not a fan of the look of the chunky black bezel, but I’m also keenly aware as was noted earlier that most watches have a sizable bezel – but other brands mask it with hashmarks or other visual noise (often making it very tactical looking), which fools a lot of buyers.
I bought a S9B in part for its bigger watchface with relatively small bezel, but if you’d blend the 50mm size of the S9B and slim it down some like the S9P, that watch would be game-changing gold for our industry. Plus a 50mm size would allow for a lot of hardware real estate to build off of in coming years.
Edit to add: There are absolutely lots of other reasons I love my Baro, but to focus stylistically, it would be absolute perfection in design at about 2mm thinner off the wrist, with all other visual specs and build quality the same. It’s a watch size that’s easy to see while running trails, looks stunning in any environment, and has survived more than its share of falls and scrapes.
-
@TrailEyes interestingly everyone complains about the size of the bezel (me too!) but I’ve used Polar watches too over the years and they’ve always had large bezels. My S9B though seems to be pretty good really. I don’t notice it too much. The 9PP is nice, but if I’m out on the trails I prefer a large watch and the S9B is an absolute tank, and I love it for it’s robustness and all round quality. If they made a 9 baro pro then I’d definitely look at that. But great to see Suunto upping their game again.

Only one GPS mode is available that uses all GNSS systems at the same time.
So no option to select glonass etc
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos since i notice you have slate color. Is the bazel matt look or the same as previous versions where bazel was shiny
-
Pro looks way better imo. More bare, raw, less jewellery.
That’s why I switched order from black to slate -
@mountainChris
the slate is my favorite, too. it’s a great design.
I also like the ocean a lot, especially the strap design. -
@kielegat no, it seems that there are hardware constraints
