New Suunto watch coming
-
Dear diary, I need to write down my feelings somewhere, so here we go:
I am glad we, Vertical early adopters, did (most probably) the testing for this
No, but honestly, I have very mixed feelings about this and feel a bit let down. I get there will be always a newer watch, but considering the past releases this is coming out of nowhere (at least for me) just a few months after Vertical was released (and tested the patience of a bunch of users). I just wish they would skip Vertical and introduce this one instead… even though the story with bugs and flaws would be probably the same…

My guess is it will be targeted to a completely different audience (a la Suunto 7 vs 9 Baro)…at least that’s what I’m hoping to avoid that feeling you’ve described

@stromdiddily It’s been speculation from the start. Let’s wait for the official announcements. The S9 era is over, so the catalogue will evolve.
-
I just hope that the SV will benefit from all the software features of these watches…
-
@Frederick-Rochette I mean, if a new watch is coming, the SV will get all the new software features.
-
@tomasbartko tbh over the last few years suunto released a new watch every 6 month or so. And since s9p people always said “i wish suunto would release this watch right away and not the previous model”. I think to a certain extent this happens with every piece of tech one is interested in.

Sorry in advance, i am in a bad mood today
I loved my Spartan Ultra i bought from release, but i am still remembering this sentence : “we are making FW alignments between spartan and S9 to be able to release new stuffs more easily”, and Spartan never received any new feature (except day of week bug fix ).
But hey, my adventures with my Spartan are still great one
I never go trough S9, but used S9P and S9PP to see improvements, but not much to me. While Vertical is now a real new good friend on my wrist … for long years ? -
@Mff73 Now that is an ugly watchface… Moving away from minimal design…
-
Spartan was released in 2016 and was updated for over three years, until hardware limitations took over.
Look at the most recent ones. 9baro came out in 2018 and recently received an update, aka 5 years of support.
I would say that buyers of Vertical (but also of 9 Peak Pro) can rest assured from this point of view.

@Mff73 wow that’s really vivid, disco style. But with bright oled display it could be interesting to younger generations. I believe Vertical will stay with more calm tones.
-
@Dušan-Ković well, the 9PP watchfaces were not minimal at all, neither is the Vertical watchface. And maybe, this specific watchface is made to highlight the screen capabilities
-
@isazi we’re talking oled?
-
@isazi If you compare them to that new-disco watch face, s9pp watch faces are super minimal xDD
But I guess this is to show off OLED screen, you don’t need super-shiny-disco watchface to show off standard screens
-
@DMytro yeah I get it, I am just being emotional …
-
Suunto Users in 3 month.
-
@Lechamoix AHAHAHHAHAHAH
-
For the modo, If the gif disturbs , I’ll leave the image fixed.
-
@Lechamoix molto simpatica non disturba affatto…ahahah

Ill admit I have mixed feeling about this announcement. Not from the perspective of Suunto launching a new watch - I hope it helps Suunto be more successful in this competitive market. But more from the perspective of the issues people have been having with the Vertical (me included - sporadic no map issues and weird resets) without clear communication from Suunto on when the issues will be fixed (but a shout out to the forum moderators here to fill in where they can).
I did reach out to official Suunto chat support to ask, based on the issues above, if there is any roadmap or date to the next firmware update, and they said no idea, so Im wondering if there is a disconnect on how to address these issues between Finland Suunto staff and the new owners (?).
Lets hope there is positive communication and updates to the Vertical soon, and hopefully aligns with the launch of a new device. Other companies (Garmin/Coros etc) have a fairly good record of porting new device updates to previous models, and the Vertical was promoted as a future proof watch given the processors and memory, so really hoping that change is good.
