Disappointing launch

After an unsuccessful attempt to buy the titanium version, I have had the steel version for two days, but I am still curious whether the two versions differ only in weight and color or whether there are also differences in GPS and OHR accuracy.
It is only weight, eMMC memory and color.
GPS is the same. OHR could be different to the titanium version being lighter and thus having less inertia… -
@Egika Are you sure that the housing material (titanium vs. steel) will not affect GPS accuracy? And the difference in weight may affect the HR reading.

yes

that’s what I wrote

@Egika i think Vertical’s GPS accuracy is slightly better than the Race? because “Simultaneous satellite systems” for Vertical is 5 and Race is 4. In challenging environment Vertical should be better than the Race

Ti version is now available in Sunnto store Italy, I have just bought one!
-
@babychai if this is not only a typo. let me check.

@ChrisA the frustration lies in that it was advertised as in stock, with 1-2 days turn around. In my case, I am in one of the markets where titanium is/was “available”. I ordered on launch day. Since then I have not received a single piece of communication of where the watch is. Suunto chat says they have no idea what the status is or any indication what is going on. I find today that my credit card has been fully charged. I reached out to Dan Suher (head of Suunto North America), he responds that the Canadian market should be good to go. Would you be satisfied?

As you mention ski touring: How will the the new crown of the Suunto Race behave when worn under a Jacket (for skiing or ski touring)?
- What is the function of the crown during a training?
- Is there a chance that the training will be interrupted or ended by accidentally pressing the button under the jacket?
- Will the crown also be locked, when locking the buttons during a training?
Thank you

Like middle button before: press to cycle the screens.
And in map view rotate to zoom the map.
Long press for options (where rotating the crown goes through the options menu)- Is there a chance that the training will be interrupted or ended by accidentally pressing the button under the jacket?
The crown button: not really. Training will only be interrupted with the top button as before. And actually the Race’s top and bottom buttons seem to be a little less protuding.
But there is a chance to change settings unintentionally by a series of long pressing, then rotating and pressing the crown again (see above).- Will the crown also be locked, when locking the buttons during a training?
Yes. Like middle button before. With button lock you can still press the crown to advance through the screens. Rotation (like in map screen) and long press will be locked.

Thank you very much.

@colinmacdon you‘re right, that’s a bad customer experience and Suunto US isn’t doing a good job here. I can’t say that I had any problems like you, whenever I communicated with Suunto. Be it ordering or returning watches, everytime things went fast and without glitches. I don’t know on which date the launch in the US was, but here in Europe it was October, 17th (I guess) and if thats the same as in the US its „just“ a week - perhaps everything gets ok or at least you get a status within the next week. I understand, that you want to be informed, but at some point I would rely on the saying that „the grass won‘t grow faster, when you pull on it“ and just wait and set myself a duedate when I would go a step further, like cancelling my order and asking my credit card company not to pay the money finally separating this from „myself“ and not letting this thing capture my thoughts all the time.

@bobson frustration lies with the fact that there is zero communication from suunto and when you try to use their chat support it is useless.

I have ordered the Titanium model on Amazon, because I had a gift card. Initially the delivery date was 18th or 19th of October. In the evening of the 19th I got an email from Amazon, that delivery is delayed until 15th Nov - 28th Dec. So I guess they have no idea when it will be available. I have never worked „in product“ or something like that. I have no idea how difficult a worldwide launch of a product like this is. But I guess there are a couple of things that can go wrong, and they went wrong with this product launch.
As a loyal Suunto customer I am disappointed by this performance. But I am not angry or something like that. It makes me somehow sad, that things are just not working out for Suunto. To me it seems, that with the SR Suunto has finally caught up in various aspects to the competition. And now they screw up the product launch. Unbelievable.
The problem I see is, that the Polar Vantage V3 is the main competitor. And this watch launches tomorrow (25th). There might be a lot of people who will order the Polar instead of the Suunto, just because it will be available (Sapphire and Titanium is not important to everyone, and the V3 is a lot lighter). Or maybe Polar also screws up the V3 product launch? -
I’m sorry, but I don’t really understand why everybody keeps talking about “launch failure”…
The SR seems very promissing, and I would say it is a launch success ! Perhaps the only reproach we could make to Suunto is not to have believed enough in the sales level they should have expected at launch ! And so the support is probably overflooded !
The Black version is available and shipped since it was launched…
The Titanium is coming few days after launch…
Other colors have never been officialy announced…
I ordered the Wing the day of launch, and have received it the very next day !I remember reading threads where people were mentionning that some other brands were specialists to launch products way before they would be available…
Not so long ago all what you could hear was that Suunto was finished, not in the game anymore…and now everybody wants a Race !!
Hope you guys will receive your watches soon ; I’m sure that first orders (at least orders made throught Suunto’s website) will be the first to be delivered !

@Tieutieu I have to agree with you… maybe we have all fallen to the instant gratification needs… think back 10+ years… we wouldn’t even know it was coming… and now because we are not instantly gratified - in most cases reasons we don’t know it’s a failure.

It’s really sad so see what’s happening. It was a lot of hype around of this new watch, but I feel that Suunto it’s losing train after train. All this issues will keep a lot of people apart the brand.
Not that I am pro or anti Suunto , but other brands have similar issues . When the Garmin 965 was launched it was a pain to get hold of one, you had to wait one month or more.
I believe it’s the pressure that each brand has to launch products , to be the first.
The market is agressive, each day counts, and for sure shit happens.
Leaks of images , mistakes in production, last minute findings on production units that weren’t find on prototypes.
And for sure no brand will ever talk about it, why would they?
No one on these enterprises is dumb, or plan to do things “in a bad way”.
If Suunto could do it differently? Maybe…maybe not.
Honestly I didn’t found this launch very “wow” like it was with the s9p or the vertical, but the reviews were good and some good news seem to come along, so let’s hope Suunto catches this train. -
@André-Faria Regarding the 965 when I ordered it they clearly stated a 5-8 week delivery window which they met. Suunto’s challenge here is accepting orders and giving a 2-3 day shipping window (their disclaimer).

I’m happy because I got Titanium version this morning.
And particularly for me it wasn’t disappointing launch.
I ordered Steel and Titanium on Oct 17 on the Suunto website and got watches yesterday (Steel) and today (Titanium). Even faster than 9PP last year.I believe that all of us are big Suunto fans. Otherwise we wouldn’t order watches in first days or even hours. And it seems that disappointment comes from impatience not from high expectations. I would like to get new version 15 minutes after release. But I know and expect that they will be delivered in one week (may be bad comparison but my wife still waiting for new iphone).

@sashaklepikov Congrats - you are right next door so if it’s 7 days for you, makes sense it will be longer for others - did UPS deliver?
Would be curious about your thoughts on the weight between the two on the wrist.
