Enable touchscreen during exercise, to see descent left on route
-
I really like the Race, but one thing is missing for me: On my previous Suunto watches (Spartan Ultra and 9 Peak Pro), I could tap the elevation graph during an exercise to toggle between ascent and descent left on the route. I could also swipe between screens instead of pushing the middle button, which was handy since I put the key data fields on either side of the map, for easy access with a single swipe, instead of having to push through a bunch of screens to arrive at the one I needed.
On the race, there’s no way to enable the touchscreen during exercise. I get that this is probably because touch is needed for panning around the map, so probably the swiping between screens is not really feasible. But it really limits the utility of the elevation graph to not be able to see descent left on the route, especially since it’s not a customizable data field for the other screens. Essentially, there’s no way (I think) to see the descent left on a route, which seems like an oversight since it’s really useful for anyone spending time in the mountains.
If the touchscreen can’t be enabled during exercise for whatever reason, perhaps the crown could be used to “scroll” between ascent and descent left on a route? Or perhaps I’m missing a way of seeing this?

@bobson No idea if the Race is the same, but on the Vertical this is possible by selecting the Custom battery mode. Here you can select touch Off, map only or On

@surfboomerang Good idea, and I remember doing this on my 9 Peak Pro, but there’s no “custom” battery mode on the Race, weirdly. You can only choose between Performance, Endurance, Ultra, and Tour. The last three of those specify that touch is off, while Performance says touch in on for “map only”. So there doesn’t seem to be a way to enable the touch screen for exercise—but surely, if you can do it on the Vertical, even with the maps, there should be a way to do it on the Race?

@bobson I see. I would expect that those watches were identical in software.

Yeah, this is different and I am missing it too…
No idea why this was omitted from Race…
