Thank you for the link to this post. Already I supported the web app however I don’t like web dependency. Web access could be necessary for some syncing and some planning but shouldn’t be for analysis and copying activities from watch to unit having far more better memory capabilities.

@halajos said in Suggestion for maps import offline: @TitoPaKa do you refer to the possibility on the ambit to navigate on a route from the logbook entry? That’s indeed missing from the recent models. @halajos yes I do. I think it’s a step back. In the end, the information is saved in the watch.

@Mff73 said in Routplanning and Cross-country skiing: @KnutB Are these skitouring paths routable with other apps? Or are they just drawn on the map? Not all path are known by route engines. Just question here Those are routable. It’s a regular way-element but with a piste:type=nordic tag. Or a collection with relevant tags. XC ski routing can be seen at https://www.xctrails.org/map/map.html?type=xc . Another one without routing but maybe with a better overview is http://www.opensnowmap.org/ , there you can also see how unevenly proper tags for ski tracks and routes are actually used, even in Nordic countries. Not sure what routing service SA is using. Considering its current routing options in SA, it’s not a (standard) Mapbox Drive API, but technically it should be doable. Though they probably want to keep it as simple as possible. Another thing is routing quality, it really depends on tagging quality and consistency. I’m afraid for most people who would try xc ski routing it would not work out. Though on the other hand, if there would more services providing this feature, there would be more interest in OSM community to maintain and improve those tags.

@Mff73 Good one! Didn’t know this was available. I tested it with another activity and it shows the public activities.

@Mff73 and while they do that, I hope they think of downhill mountainbikers, too

@mcindr I think, registering 1 or 2 more information into the database should not result in a daily charging of the watch. I would not afraid of it.

@kostas-zinelis correct, I was under the impression that it should work, at least on Android, but it seems this is not the case.

@bulkan said in Calories estimate for planned routes: @brad_olwin do you follow the 90gr carbs/hour recommendation? I find it too much but never went for an ultra. In a marathon (trail) I find it too much for my stomach. I pretty much eat something every 20 min or so. However, at aid stations I eat and stuff food I will need into a plastic bag. I don’t run marathons so have no experience. I do not use a timer to monitor either food or water intake.

@fluca UP! It would be much safer go for a run with a live tracking. The technology is already present both in the devices and in the app, it is just a matter of implementing it. Do any of the Suunto developers read our requests?

@jjpaz I see as well that in some cases a reliable watch is crucial. but basically it should be reliable without a doubt! what I wanted to say is that maybe if you use different settings or use another or no S+ etc it can also be different and that is also interesting to find out. in race situations you want to have a stable watch, fully agree!

@VoiGAS said in TSS(hr) as a target: @Brad_Olwin Maybe a little offtopic, but what is the TSS MET you mentioned? I only know TSS R and TSS HR for running. It is in SA and is metabolic equivalents. It is the least precise but for me matches much better the longer duration efforts that are done at lower intensity.

@twekkel I’ve heard people have trouble with HR while biking but my experience is pretty good. And I ride a bit of everything. As of connection issues, I don’t think that would be a problem, I don’t see the reason. Battery and hot sun could be a problem sometimes, but that depends on weather and duration of the activity. I’m still waiting for full sunny day this spring So yeah, dedicated bike computer is most certainly a better option, but I still think I would use this mobile/suunto watch combo. I guess that would be good enough for most average users. Apple as it seems thinks this too, so it’s probably not entirely nonsense.

@Tecera-0 said in Merge a workout with a GPX track: On the topic of making an S+ app. Both MyLaps and Suunto only provide access to their SDK to companies, not individuals as far as I can see, so I can’t do anything about that part. I think this was actually the idea: not fiddle a private individual solution, but to check with that race timing chip company, if they would be willing to use Suunto’s SDK to get their data synced into the Suunto ecosystem.

@Michele-Zago I get that. You mean physical fitness metrics like VO2max (which decreases noticeably when you hike with backpack), right? Yeah, that would be cool. But given the fact that the formulas and algorithms for this are already quite complex and still don’t work for everyone, I’m afraid this would be extremely challenging to implement. On the other hand, if this would be done right, it could be quite a breakthrough Perhaps machine learning would help here?
