@freeheeler Exactly, do you know what the market share of Suunto in the wearables industry?
I am guessing it’s minuscule and probably crying out for a cash injection for future development. Competition is good but it’s a bit too much for Suunto to handle the Chinese influx of wearable offering shit loads of features for half the cost of any Suunto watch……

I don’t expect that Suunto wants to grow into a market where people are chasing low quality for low cost.
althletes are willing to pay for a reliable product. There are few competitors that seriously manage to catch up with Suunto. Of course you’ll find tonns of watches that offer various functions. I didn’t try any of them. E.g. my sons new fitbit didn’t last very long while his second hand S3 still works.

@freeheeler yeah, but some things are still missing at Suunto if it is targeted to serious athletes. For example multiple sensors, this bothers me a lot. 1 power meter on bike, 1 as smart trainer, bike pod (cadence and speed sensor) on road and MTB, H10 as primary HR belt (because multiple BT connections and ANT+) and Suunto HR belt when swimming. A lot of sensors, but only 1 for each type allowed… Not sure how stryd interferes with bike power meter? I think this is not a rare case. And strava live segments, I like to race myself on some hills, but I never know if I am quicker than last time until I got home… Maybe I could push for those 5s at the end of 20min climb if I knew that I was so close. I’m far from pro, but I like to move every day, sometimes hard, sometimes slow. I care about progress in SA, resting HR, sleep quality and I don’t care about calories burned and steps in a day.

As for strava: the new beta just revield suunto store for the various apps (also from 3d parties). Maybe strava segments or its analog will come eventually. -

Older watches as S9/s5 also support suunto store and thus will be future proof to some degree. -
@Likarnik I think that everboby has their needs. I can’t care less about sleep quality or rest HR but I care a little bit more about burned calories (not much). I agree with you that regarding connectivity Suunto is way behind.
Regarding Strava Live Segments, do you trust strava segments? On saturday my running partner and I run a downhill (less than 4 minutes segment), he was at least 10 seconds faster than me (we both started at the same time, without pause, we both use a S9B and both tracks are identical) eventually Strava says that I am 1 second faster than him, and as this case I can count more than 10. If you really want to know if you are faster the lap button is your friend not Strava, even more in a 20 minutes uphill.

@DMytro if new watch has some new futures that I don’t need (like depth for snorkeling) I will not upgrade. Also battery life is not a problem (100km ultra trail goes fine, for 100miles I can charge between - fast charging in comparison to S9B), but connectivity (pairing and unpairing) is a hassle for me.
@cosme-costa sure, everybody has their own needs. But we were talking about ‘serious’ athletes who (I assume) care about these things. I’m semi serious
but I find those things useful. Yesterday I had quite long bike ride for me and my resting HR was higher than normal. I’ll take it easy today. But I feel ok. And sometimes I think I had a hard workout, but next day I am feeling good and resting HR is also normal. I take other things in consideration also, how many times daughter woke me up during night, how many beers I had if any and so on… More data more fun For strava segments I trust them as long GPS data is ok, but I only race myself so I don’t have any experiences like yours. Before strava I had a chalkboard and I had to manually write down my ‘starred segments’ -
@freeheeler I have two of those “Asian” watches (came bundled with two of my sons scales
) from Amazfit and Huawei and they’re quite good qualitywise, get regular updates and are amazingly accurate compared to my H10 chest strap. I have to agree, that fibit devices are awful both on quality and datawise

@dulko79 It looks like it is going to be the same size as S9P. Very disappointing to see that. I was hoping for it to be 45mm or maybe even more, as that would make me change the S9P.

to me 43 and 45mm would be “the same”… I’ve got 50mm now and would much much appreciate 50mm again but thinner… we’ll see… all the leaks, that’s unusual, I’m not used to that around Suunto

If this is the case, that changes everything. The current peak is impossible to read with my crappy eyesight, this might make it useable on a run! I really hope all these new features (hardware excluded) trickle down to the other S9 watches, but they might be constrained by the new processors…

100% agree!
I dislike a 46mm and smaller watch so much (especially if it’s got a particularly small display because of a big bezel) that I’d buy another S9B down the road before I’d buy something smaller…even if that small watch were newer. As a trail runner, I gotta have a screen that’s big enough to see when I’m bouncing around on uneven terrain.

Suunto is doing a lot of things right and very good. Not only soft and firmware, but also the mechanical things like haptics, materials and new position of baro sensors.
unfortunately I don’t get why the S9P was released as a 43mm version only. It is nice for athletes who prefer a small watch, of course. -

@ChrisA that’s alrwady available le on the SA suunto store with is gorgeously implemented. Looks like a new, better looking version of MOVESCOUNT app. I have to admit that I had that sensation of nostalgy and relief and I though ‘SUUNTO IS SUUNTO AGAIN BUT BETTER’
