Suunto Vertical is here

@Hristijan-Petreski I found that I need to fasten the strap on the Vertical a little more than on S9PP.
If it stays put during vibrations OHR will improve! -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I could run only with my watch and headphones, free like a bird
Especially during summer I do not wear a vest or jacket with pockets. So, if I want to listen to Music I have to carry my phone in my hand which is a bit cumbersome.
My iPhone is heavy, it pulls my pants down. -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I had Suunto 5 (absolute satisfaction), then Garmin Fenix 6x. Garmin died in two months. Never more. The new Suunto Vertical will arrive tomorrow.
It’s up to everyone, I can do without music too, but it would be nice to play it from the watch.
Sorry for the question, but it was not meant badly.

I don’t care about music but podcasts catch up during training is a time saver for me especially when new Uphill Athlete podcast comes out. I can apply what they say in the podcast as I am running.

@lessthanmore That’s why you buy a second phone like the mini the greatest size of phone for sport people. Fits in every pocket in those running shorts with small pocket made for… keys?!

Personally I have an old iPod shuffle , not as sophisticated but does the job. Don’t want my phone with me while running. Personally I never used that on my watch. And from all complaints I see on garmin forum with itches with Bluetooth audio, don’t want to try it either -

My iPhone is heavy, it pulls my pants down.I always use one of these when I run
This particular one that I’ve had now for a couple of years stays put and has enough pockets for gels, key, phone etc. Kind of a necessity for longer training and races that I enjoy

What I have found so far for optical hr as others mentioned the strap needs to be tight, for me almost uncomfortable tight.
The good it works perfect for indoor bike 100% accurate I believe this is because there is no wrist movement.
The bad it’s all over the place for gym, and for trail running (vertical kilometre) for me and I think it’s due to wrist movement. When going uphill I use my hands on my quads to push to generate more power I think this throw it out just like lifting weights.
I need to do more confirmation with some flat walks but from what I have seen the more still you can keep it the more accurate it is, overall though a strap is still required for me.
Unfortunately even the “gold standard” H10 for me fails 100% when descending down 1000m for some reason. It can also fail going up but much less often, works about 99% of time on indoor bike and maybe 90% of time on treadmill. It often glitches and “zeros” out or gets stuck on numbers 30-60bpm below where it should be. Despite many reviews claiming this is the gold standard if you do some further searching on the “reddit” forums etc you will find many people with same issues as me often after 45-60min of excercise it start glitching. I have had 2 under warranty both do the same thing.
The only hr Montior that is 100% bomb proof for me no glitches or hr drop outs is the ancient polar ft4 model this is my gold standard to test against always reliable unfortunately it doesn’t Bluetooth to modern watches.

You simply do not use the functionality of your FR965.
I personally never had any issue with my fenix 7 and Spotify. If you rely on the forums you might also think the Vertical is buggy but it’s not, at least not for me.
As I said, I do not request music on the SV, but I certainly would not complain either if it would be possible.
In the end Suunto wants and needs to make money and having music on the watch might lead to a bigger group of buyers.
And buying an iPhone Mini or mighty are good options but imagine you could just put your ear buds in, select the playlist/ podcast and start running -
Welcome back suunto ️

@lessthanmore I agree but running out in the wild without mobile is a bit stressful for me. Just don’t feel ‘safe’ enough to do it

This watch is epic. Today I tried in the store the SS version and loved it. Still haven’t made up up my mind whether to go for the SS but before I do I want to put on my wrist the titanium version as well.
It’s an awesome watch and I love it. And feels so comfortable. And not only that. -
Had to share this. Ran a trail race today, where the course was measured by bike odometer to be 27.5 miles. The Vertical delivered on accuracy in a big way!
Let’s just say this GPS was not as “short” as the race director likely expected all watches would be

Today, I received my new Suunto Vertical and I’m looking for some tips or suggestions on how to optimize its setup.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance -
@Hugo-Renaud The best advice i have would be to set up your HR zones if you know them or at least set your Max HR and let the watch estimate them. The Suunto app uses those zones to estimate TSS and other things in the the new Training Zone.
Also don’t forget to turn on sleep tracking and the widgets can be rearranged on the Suunto app to your liking.
Hope this helps a little.

@Hugo-Renaud
storm altert needs to be toggled on, too, as this is off by default, just in case you want to make use of it.
the other thing seems to be the backlight which is default on but consumes unnecessary battery. I would switch if off and just use raise to wake either low or high… for me low is sufficient…the rest: just play with it and have fun with your new adventure tool!!
congrats!! -
Now I am on holidays and can test my new watch much more than last week at home after work. I like to wear it 24h a day, solar charging has little effect (I just wrote this yesterday), and running with maps is really awesom! I searched some trails near our location with the Suunto heatmaps and planed it with the app… it was really easy to find the way in regions where I could not see a trail on Apple Maps… really cool!

name of watch not displayed on the activity, and on map view in the diary,
For those who didn’t noticed, it has been corrected with today’s SA update (IOS)

Hot watch . I usually wait a few months until the software evolves… Thats why I did not switch immediately to S9PP. Still using S9P which is still fantastic watch to me. On Christmas I will switch directly to SV…
-
Last full charge 8 days ago…since then been wearing it h24 with hr and sleep tracking, doing 34 hours of exercice with gps to best, with Maps almost all the Time.
Still 31% battery left and I just had the message « are you training soon ? Don’t Forget to charge your watch »…
I think Suunto can change the algorithm and provide the alert when you only have 5% left !!
