@surfboomerang To reiterate what @Egika said. Suunto knows about this.

even if it’s known :), @surfboomerang , i can’t make the workaround work anymore. Is it still ok for you ?
It is not important though 🙂

Same issue here with the latest update (2.30.26).
I keep disabling the wrist HR in all my sports modes but when I start the sport mode, the wrist HR blinks and I’m sure that it uses more battery than without it.

Disappointed that Suunto is releasing yet another watch that seems half-baked unfortunately.

Confirmed. SV all black (non-solar). My imagination was that is a pretty serious crash and would be fixed very soon during the next update but I was wrong…
Hiking in June - 10 hours = ca. 13% of battery life
Hiking now (with hr switched on) - 10 hours = ca. 25% or even more of battery life.
In both cases the same parameters for gps, dispaly etc.
As SV is advertised as an outdoor gps watch, topic is important IMHO.

@Brad_Olwin Thanks for the update, that’s nice to know.
But still, I have to admit that I dont get how such a bug like that can make it to the public. Sorry for the rant but I dont really like being a beta tester anymore whenever I get an official released watch that I bought 6 months after the initial public release.

@GiPFELKiND I agree with you enterely, I’m not a betta tester. so many bugs, so many resets. If I could I’ll return back the watch … that’s all. I don’t want to be waiting for a new update to solve problems… some of them are ridiculous. I dont’ know what have happened with SUUNTO.
Even I know people with another models of suunto and some reports are the same that in the vertical.

You are not alone. Vertical and Race are the top watches and although they are very new on the market, there are currently around 100 of these watches on Amazon Warehouse (Germany) that have been returned. That says a lot and is not at all common.

I returned a Vertical Titanium, a Race Titanium and three days ago a S9 Peak Pro. There are just too many things that don’t work reliably yet and I’m not willing to keep waiting for new updates.

My old SSU is a very reliable sports watch that only has two bugs that have not been fixed, but I can easily live with them (phone calls that were not answered remain in the notifications until a soft reset and the SSU hangs every 4 weeks Saving an activity and only a soft reset solves the problem, but the activity is displayed in the app).

So all I have left is the old SSU and I’ll wait and see where suunto goes… 🤙

@Frederic The inability to disable does not affect function of the watch and does not draw much battery. So I do not think Suunto considers this a major issue. Neither do I but I have no influence on priority of bug fixes.

I recognized a nice workaround if you want to use a strap HR and turn of Wrist HR (which is not possible for me via the disable WHR setting, it still reads the WHR if I set it to off).

                              1. in your activity switch off WHR and enable Strap HR (belt)
                              2. Take the watch off your wrist
3 Start the activity and wait for the HR being read by the Belt (make sure WHR has no contact and is not flashing/reading)
                              3. Once the HR is read from the strap put the watch back on and WHR will not start / kick in again (at least not for me)

Step 2 is useless, if an HR belt is connected it will take the priority.
The issue with this toggle not working, is in case one need not to have any HR measurement : it is not possible.

now when i’m wearing the strap it reads this information providing by the strap

The wrist HR must draw some battery a way or another. Since you mention that it “does not draw much battery”, how much does it reduce the total number of recording hours let’s say if I go on a 5h run ?

Maybe Suunto considers it not a major issue but as a consumer, it doesn’t give me a good impression when I acquire a “half-baked” product

@Frederic A five our run will reduce your recording hours by 5 hours, the estimates are given considering wirst HR ON

as @darekzzz said, he measured a doubling of his battery consumption, indeed its not negligible, but the suunto vertical having 60 hours training battery life, or even 90hr just by disabling dual band GPS, already seems enough to keep putting up with that bug until its corrected ? (that doesn’t, in any way, affect the advertised battery life)
Like…for real, who runs Ultras that are longer than 60 hours ?
And if you are hiking, remember you can use the eco mode that gives you 140Hr (so, two weeks basically) while still logging GPS accurately !
Are you really that starved for battery life to rant on and on on this matter ?

Even if it’s a bug I’m personally not too fussed, the impact that it has on battery life must be tiny. FWIW I’ve just put my SV onto charge, I last charged it up to 100% exactly one month ago and I still have a little over 30% battery left. I’m averaging around 70km of running plus 5-20km of walking each week (usually around 7-8 hours using dual frequency and the best GPS)

Not bad at all for a half-baked product 👍

                                            @Frederic 85 h for solar on performance mode with OHR so maybe another 3-5h if OHR off. So that is 6% so 5h X 60 = 300 x 6% =18 min.
To answer your question maybe 18 min on your 5 h run?
BTW this should be fixed in the next update!
