    Hi there!
Since I installed the latest update 2.33.12, I have a problem with using the Race on my handlebar of bikes…
    alt text

The display switches completely off - which it did not in the previous version.
And to make it worse: there is no way to reactive the screen besides an interaction that also does something - there is no non-changing button you can press to active it again.

Turning the crown does not activate it, pressing the upper button pauses the recording, middle button switches the view, etc.

This change basically now prohibits the use of the Race on a handlebar.
I searched in the options, but did not find anything about screen not turning off… 😞

    Was that an intentional change?

@Ketoohs oh my god. I cannot believe this. This is such a f…up!
Suunto. Don’t you have ANY beta testers that actually USE your devices? 😞

@Olaf-Gottschalk I’m so glad I don’t have SR as I use SV as my only device when cycling (cca 150h/year). Maybe this is ‘cycling related goodie’ as stated in this interview: https://saketonemo.it/talking-about-suunto-with-suunto/

Hello, It’s the same in running mode.
The screen turns off. This is a known situation at Suunto and voluntarily maintained for some reason.
There is another discussion thread on the subject, some moderators agree that it is illogical, but they have no solution other than to deactivate the general standby of the watch before each activity.

            @Brad_Olwin said in SOFTWARE UPDATE 2.33.12 - Q1 2024:

@Frédéric-Fiandino I realize you do not agree, if you read prior posts here you will see the testers (including me) and others agree with you (as do I). Perhaps if enough folks vote for this change Suunto will consider changing this back to the prior function. My suggestion is to start a Feature request post for the appropriate watch and collect votes. I will vote for it. Sorry, I gave you the answer I know and you will see the same here from @isazi, it does not mean I agree with the implemented change.

              Yes, you’re lucky.

But honestly - I will demand my money back from Suunto as this change broke my 90% use case of the watch. Basically they destroyed the device for me by changing behavior.

I once had a programmer friend who was supposedly a programming genius. There was only one problem with it. No matter how long you explained to him what your expectations were, he still knew better what you needed and did everything his way. Either Suunto doesn’t know what people using their watches need, or they hired my friend 😉

I have been using Garmin, Polar, Coros and Suunto watches for 20 years for running and cycling. I currently have Suunto Race.
