Suunto Ocean update 2.51.28
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos that is great, I have been waiting for the dive switch window customizations impatiently, also 2 tank pods on one gas is amazing. I can’t download the new watch faces , I guess the ocean lite is the one for scuba features , but it doesn’t download for me!
Everything else is amazing! -
@Horizontal_2
I would really like to see this feature on the R2 as well because I enjoy fishing, and this function would be extremely useful for me. -

reporting the watchface issue
-
I have just updated my Ocean to 2.51.28.
Synced the watch with suunto spp - and the new watches are all downloadable and can be used on my watch. Many months ago, i reported that the race2 and outback adventure watch faces has portions of them not displaying properly or not working - they have been fixed in this update and it works for me; race2 now displays the graph or chart (before this it was blank), and the outback adventure has 2 arches on the watch face (before this it only had 1 arch at the bottom and missing the top arch).
I was also able to download on my watch the following watch faces:
Chengdu trail
Light flow
Ocean lite,
Race 2
Outback adventure
Snow slash
Vector classic
Earth dayThe tide wodget also displays information related to my location.

Looks great update:
- Performance is smooth, way faster menus.
- New options to customize dive watch looks promising, now we can leave only data we need to quickly switch between them. Not super customizable, but a great start.
- Water type is nice to have feature, guess POD additional info is also nice addon. No-fly icon was unnecesary for too long, if it is shortened - that’s a nice feature.
- Sleep report looks better, will see if alarm / night report bug is fixed.
! logbook missing. After update I only see activities for ~1 month, did not find a way to seperate other activities and diving and my older dives are missing on watch.
- not sure if daylight saving time is fixed (we are still switching winter/summer time and sync with GPS did not change it correctly, had to choose time zone manually)
- can’t find new dive watch face (not really need it, but could not find it anyway)
- sad that latest maps updates are not integrated in this update, guess we will get them in a year or so

-
@Reino-von-Wielligh Same issue with Ocean.

not sure if daylight saving time is fixed -> this is cached via the app FYI

@prakalejas Yeah also disappointed that the new maps update and swim features were not included in this update of Ocean. I remember on the slides of the updates from & April, it said coming to Ocean, but when we will get this, we can only hope Suunto starts treating the Ocean with the same urgency as the rest of the lineup.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Excellent updates! Have I understood correctly that for freediving mode, customization and water type adjustment are not available?
-
Hello,
I wish he had reviewed the planning, which is really basic. In multi-gas mode, the planning only manages the active gas, which is unusable. But there are a few improvements nonetheless. -

Does someone know how that Tide Widget looks like? I’d love to see and wish it for all the other models

Here is a photo.

@Reino-von-Wielligh same issue with my watch.
-
@Milos-Dimic Watchfaces working for me now…

Thanks Suunto

Freediving mode still not customized.
Suunto Heart Rate belt doesn’t work with freediving mode, but works with scuba diving mode.
No log in freediving, only can see total dives. -
@Maximfreediver
I’m also one of the users who has been waiting for real progress in freediving features on Suunto Ocean — especially for DYN, DYNB, STA and other pool disciplines. Many of us were hoping that the recent updates would finally bring improvements to freediving training, because Ocean has great hardware potential. I really hope Suunto continues developing this part of the watch, as the freediving community is growing and needs proper tools.

Hi All
It seems that the watch face issue has now been solved. I was able to install various faces now.
Thank you @dimitrios-kanellopoulos for reporting this to Suunto.
Kind Regards

@Stefan1 We do miss this update regarding freediving — I bought it as a freediving watch, since that’s also how it was advertised, and it will soon be 2 years since I got it and it hasn’t improved much…
Now we’ll have to wait another 6/10 months for the next update and hope for the best.

Hi everyone,
It seems that this update turned out to be more substantial and stable than the previous one. That’s definitely a good thing. However, it also seems that there are still some basic things that should already have been addressed. A few examples: the alarm function is outdated. The swimming drill function is still missing. For a dive watch, it is perfectly reasonable — and not an exaggeration at all — to expect it to be among the best when it comes to classic water sports features.
Even the Ambit 3 already had a basic but well-functioning swim drill feature. As for the diving side, there are clearly more advanced users involved, so I won’t pretend to know better there, but it is obvious that satisfaction is still not complete.
As a user, here is my humble suggestion: release the above-mentioned and other reasonable updates raised by users within a shorter timeframe, ideally together with any necessary bug fixes related to new features. It seems there has finally been meaningful progress toward better precision and accuracy. As users, it’s important to acknowledge that — it improves overall satisfaction.
At the same time, this progress can easily be undermined if the feature gap starts widening again and the backlog keeps growing. The Ocean has still not fully regained the flagship position it deserves — but its price suggested the premium category. Right now, it rather seems to be catching up. With more regular and scheduled updates, I hope that can change.
I think every user understands and accepts a more cautious update process due to safety validation requirements. In fact, it is reassuring to see that the manufacturer takes diving features seriously. However, this cannot become a reason for the watch to age prematurely, especially since the hardware clearly still has a lot of untapped potential.
So please — and I believe I can say this on behalf of many users — keep this new momentum going, Suunto team! We truly appreciate it. But please do not repeat the previous mistake of leaving this excellent model without proper attention for too long, despite its huge unrealized potential.
Because there is still a gap — the disadvantage has only been reduced.
Thanks in advance, and we are rooting for the Suunto team (says an enthusiastic user who still believes in this brand).
