Race 3S & Race 3 rumours
-
And PLEASE Suunto keep the original sound of the start up activity !!

-
Nice find in Spain, but what is a silicon-carbon battery? Never heard…
-
-
@strain No, it won’t get the Run software. Joakin has said it many times on Telegram.
-
@Highlands Do you know any comparison between the two OS? Or the differences?
-
I am really curious what the new features will be. In the moment all the new models are very close. I would like more differences like e.g. the Vertical 1 (MIP/Solar), Ocean ( dive functions), 9 Peak Pro (small and light).
With Race 1, Race 2, Race S, Vertical 2 und Run2 there are already five watches that are very similar. All of them have no Dive functions, no MIP, no Solar and even the Race S is not really small.
Garmin is doing better here to cover different needs -
@VoiGAS Garmin is capping their software despite same hardware capabilities. Hopefully the Race 3S will get all software features available, despite being an S.
Race 2 and Vertical 2 have some software features that the older models do not have. Even the Race S has some that the Race has not like the full new map experience. The Race only got part of it…

- cover screen to sleep or turn screen off
- greater hr zone customization (Can choose lthr)
- more details in some widgets
- in my opinion a better pre workout screen
- resume later a workout
There are some more but overall it is a nice software with some added functionality compared to the race software. This is not to say there aren’t things missing because there are such as the ability to move to the next workout screen with the scroll button presses rather than needing to literally scroll the wheel. The ability to have external training plans, etc.

resume later a workoutThese all are not fundamental properties of an OS and just UX features. If needed, all of these could easily be ported back to Race 2 and Vertical 2. I guess the “resume later” could me more difficult to port.
OS literally means “Operating system” - not to be confused with the layer of user interface on top of it.
If we talk about fundamental differences in the OS, it would be things like music playback or some other features that truly depend on the OS internals - things that absolutely can’t be done without a very significant engineering investment.

-
@isazi People are still writing about that “resume later” feature somewhere, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s so overrated that if it gets added to the firmware and “live tracking” doesn’t, I don’t know what to make of it.

-
@martintrail yeah, of the two, I would use a few times a year “resume later”, and probably never the live tracking

-
@isazi And for me, it’s exactly the opposite. Everyone’s different

It’s hard not to post this, but on YouTube, the reviewer seems to be wearing Race 3S by mistake? I’m not posting any screenshots here, so take a look for yourselves.

There’s one on eBay in Feather color, so I think we can stop pretend it doesn’t exist

-
@sky-runner Good clarification, thanks!
-
@2b2bff I don’t say everything is good at Garmin, especially I don’t like how much you have to pay to get maps. But they do very different models with different capabilities. Also Hardwarewise, not only with software limitations.
-
Haha, I was kinda wondering if this all isn`t a plan from Suunto after all, letting really few online shops have some details here and there, another user who accidentally uses a new watch in a video, another one is allowed to sell or maybe only post them on eBay…who knows, as far as I can tell, it works, we are all hyped up!
Those pics on the Japanese site with the details of the watch and even the insides of the watch is nothing new as far I can recall. Before some other model we had such leaks as well… but now, this new amount of leaks is new.

I know this is off topic here, but I have an example of my past devices that is intentionally crippling the device experience for the sake of selling a more expensive device.
I had a Vivoactive 4 and later a Fenix 6S Pro. The latter had Training Effect and Recovery time, what the Vivoactive did not. Until you look at the FIT file in Runalyze. There you see that all the Vivoactive FIT files also have those metrics. Garmin simply does not make them accessible in Garmin Connect.
That’s simply greed… -
@martintrail you can also see the new watch on Instagram… look at the account of Hannes Namberger… he‘s wearing a new watch…
