Suunto Race 3S General Discussion
-
@dani_degi the only thing I can tell you is that the R3S features not requiring new hardware will be part of the new firmware for Race, Race S, Race 2, and Vertical 2. Race and Race S get everything the others get, provided they have enough resources for that.
Other than that, Q4 firmware has many new features, but those cannot be disclosed until release.

@elbee I dont believe Liesheng will come up with another Suunto MiP watch. Their last MiP was the V1. Still, I believe that there are considerable amount of users whoāll buy it just for the MiP.
No idea either about a stainless steel version. Iām not affiliated with Suunto, so I can only guess. -
@Highlands totally go with you. A MIP Display in a Vertical 3 would be the best. I have amoled watch, too but i love the very Long battery use with the solar
-
@GiPFELKiND me too!!

Hi,
I donāt know if you can share this information or not? I am curious to know what new hardware the R3S has that the race 2 and vertical 2 do not have which would prevent them from downloading music for playback.
Thanks

The users who want mips are loud, but definitely not with a lot. Or even an considerable amount.
If you read on fora, people are more interested in looks and new watch faces than potential benefits of a mip display.

@elbee https://forum.suunto.com/topic/14971/is-there-still-demand-for-a-modern-mip-endurance-watch?_=1792498789119 Reminded me of this survey we had here on the forum
I would say demand is still there. -
@elbee Iām prone to believe that the majority of Suunto users prefer MiP. Also, take a look at Coros - Nomad and Apex 4 are MiP. Garmin removed MiP from 8 pro series only to put it back in F9 series; not long ago they launched Enduro 4 series, they still sell a MiP version of Instinct 3.
To me this proves thereās still market for MiP regardless which group is more or less vocal about it. -
@elbee but that is a flawed logic. There is also a lot more people that use sport watch to count steps and bike to work occasionally. That does not mean Suunto should remove something that only average athletes use. It depends on how you position yourself in a market. Suunto could have a position in a market where one watch model is MIP ( I vote for Vertical ).
-
@aiv4r instead of MIP I would prefer a OLED display, which is less bright in darkness. My Race sometimes feels like a flashlight in a dark room. Even the AOD is way too bright.
-
@elbee Iām prone to believe that the majority of Suunto users prefer MiP.
Based on what data? Iām unlikely to ever buy a MiP watch. I have no idea if Iām in the minority or majority. I suspect for the industry overall, Iām in the majority, simply as most watches now are AMOLED. For Suunto specific people though, where are you getting this data?
Note I think there should be MiP options as thereās certainly an audience for it. Should the majority of Suunto watches be MiP? Iām not convinced if that but willing to hear why you think so.
In your mind, should Suunto only have one AMOLED model and the rest MiP, since you believe thatās the majority of Suuntoās audience?

Not good putting words in my mouth. You arenāt in my mind, so you canāt know whatās there. Iāve never ever written that there should be only amoled.
In one of your post you boasting with your high comprehension skills and you should have noticed that Iām advocating for a version of S3S with MiP. On the contrary, I see youāve beginning following my posts, at one point youāll see one of my posts where I mentioned Pavelās post from last year where he mentioned why Suunto (and other companies) is moving towards amoled. To repeat it: companies are moving to amoled because thereās only one Japanese company that makes MiP plus programming for amoled is easier. Exactly because of that post I believe that the days of amoled are numbered. Which doesnāt hurt the release of more MiP watches (thank goodness you support that, appreciate it).
The data? Check the voting on the forum, check the thread about V2 from last year when users of the forum found out that thereād not be MiP version of V2.
FYI Iāve bought two Suunto watches with amoled - Race 1 and V2, they are so good Iād buy them again. -
@Highlands I asked you questions; Iām unclear of where I put words in your mouth. I asked āis this what you thinkā and I donāt think I said āI think you think this.ā If I said the latter, then I apologize. My goal was to understand your thinking. I have no idea what you think other than what you stated; therefore, the questions.
Specifically:
You claim this: āIām prone to believe the majority of Suunto users prefer MiP.ā
And I want to know the basis of why you believe this. The other questions follow from that. However, you answered most of them in your reply, so thanks.
My impression, and again, let me ask this as a question, so to not put words in your mouth, is ādo you think that Suunto making mostly AMOLED models is not due to customer preference but instead technical concerns?ā That is, itās because not enough MiP being made? But why are there less MiP being made if thatās what the majority of Suunto people want?

Anything new for us āold Raceā owners? Not necessary, just interested

@raven Does āIām prone believeā means āIām sure 100% that this is true.ā?
And answered why Iām proned to believing so.
Also, I replied to that I never said that in my mind Suunto should make only MiP watches. This is the place where you put words in my mouth. Again, next to the amoled I want to see a MiP version as well even though I believe after V1 Suunto are done with MiP. -

Man, you totally donāt read what I write, do you? Read again please that part of post where I mentioned Pavelās post and youāll have your answer.

I actually still donāt know why youāre āprone to believe the majority of Suunto users want MiP,ā but likely I missed something in your previous replies, and honestly, no longer care, as you seem more intent on having fights with me than reasonable conversation. I suppose others were right in other threads; most of humanity, including myself, needs simple words and dumbed down concepts, I suppose.

Honestly, you missed lots of things. Letās start from here. Iāve never said Suunto should make more amoled or more MiP, I wrote I believe that that MiPs days are numbered due to the reasons that Pavel mentions in his post. Is it clearer now? Liesheng does have management and they decide what theyāll do, not some random users on the forum.
A few posts above someone posted a link with voting MiP vs. amoled. Check it out, please.

@wakarimasen sure, Race is actively developed and has the same firmware as Race 2 and Vertical 2. Less resources means that some features are missing, like only 2 S+ apps, but everything that can works and does not slow down the watch too much is there.
