@aiv4r instead of MIP I would prefer a OLED display, which is less bright in darkness. My Race sometimes feels like a flashlight in a dark room. Even the AOD is way too bright.

@elbee I’m prone to believe that the majority of Suunto users prefer MiP.

Based on what data? I’m unlikely to ever buy a MiP watch. I have no idea if I’m in the minority or majority. I suspect for the industry overall, I’m in the majority, simply as most watches now are AMOLED. For Suunto specific people though, where are you getting this data?

Note I think there should be MiP options as there’s certainly an audience for it. Should the majority of Suunto watches be MiP? I’m not convinced if that but willing to hear why you think so.

In your mind, should Suunto only have one AMOLED model and the rest MiP, since you believe that’s the majority of Suunto’s audience?

Not good putting words in my mouth. You aren’t in my mind, so you can’t know what’s there. I’ve never ever written that there should be only amoled.
In one of your post you boasting with your high comprehension skills and you should have noticed that I’m advocating for a version of S3S with MiP. On the contrary, I see you’ve beginning following my posts, at one point you’ll see one of my posts where I mentioned Pavel’s post from last year where he mentioned why Suunto (and other companies) is moving towards amoled. To repeat it: companies are moving to amoled because there’s only one Japanese company that makes MiP plus programming for amoled is easier. Exactly because of that post I believe that the days of amoled are numbered. Which doesn’t hurt the release of more MiP watches (thank goodness you support that, appreciate it).
The data? Check the voting on the forum, check the thread about V2 from last year when users of the forum found out that there’d not be MiP version of V2.
FYI I’ve bought two Suunto watches with amoled - Race 1 and V2, they are so good I’d buy them again.

@Highlands I asked you questions; I’m unclear of where I put words in your mouth. I asked “is this what you think” and I don’t think I said “I think you think this.” If I said the latter, then I apologize. My goal was to understand your thinking. I have no idea what you think other than what you stated; therefore, the questions.

            Specifically:

You claim this: “I’m prone to believe the majority of Suunto users prefer MiP.”

And I want to know the basis of why you believe this. The other questions follow from that. However, you answered most of them in your reply, so thanks.

My impression, and again, let me ask this as a question, so to not put words in your mouth, is “do you think that Suunto making mostly AMOLED models is not due to customer preference but instead technical concerns?” That is, it’s because not enough MiP being made? But why are there less MiP being made if that’s what the majority of Suunto people want?

*@dani_degi the only thing I can tell you is that the R3S features not requiring new hardware will be part of the new firmware for Race, Race S, Race 2, and Vertical 2. Race and Race S get everything the others get, provided they have enough resources for that.

Other than that, Q4 firmware has many new features, but those cannot be disclosed until release.*

Anything new for us ‘old Race’ owners? Not necessary, just interested 🙂

@raven Does “I’m prone believe” means “I’m sure 100% that this is true.”?
And answered why I’m proned to believing so.
Also, I replied to that I never said that in my mind Suunto should make only MiP watches. This is the place where you put words in my mouth. Again, next to the amoled I want to see a MiP version as well even though I believe after V1 Suunto are done with MiP.

I didn’t say you thought Suunto should make only MiP watches, I asked you if that’s what you thought. You said no. My question was answered.

I actually still don’t know why you’re “prone to believe the majority of Suunto users want MiP,” but likely I missed something in your previous replies, and honestly, no longer care, as you seem more intent on having fights with me than reasonable conversation. I suppose others were right in other threads; most of humanity, including myself, needs simple words and dumbed down concepts, I suppose.

Honestly, you missed lots of things. Let’s start from here. I’ve never said Suunto should make more amoled or more MiP, I wrote I believe that that MiPs days are numbered due to the reasons that Pavel mentions in his post. Is it clearer now? Liesheng does have management and they decide what they’ll do, not some random users on the forum.

A few posts above someone posted a link with voting MiP vs. amoled. Check it out, please.

@wakarimasen sure, Race is actively developed and has the same firmware as Race 2 and Vertical 2. Less resources means that some features are missing, like only 2 S+ apps, but everything that can works and does not slow down the watch too much is there.

The Suunto Race 2 and the Vertical 2 measure heart rate continuously while at rest. This is not the case with the new Race 3S; the green LEDs are almost always off. It seems that this smaller model uses a 5-minute measurement interval instead of continuous monitoring—likely to make the battery life look better on paper. Any infos about this??? There is definitely No continous heart rate measurenent.

@GiPFELKiND yes that is the case (at least for the current firmware) in daily mode. And it still gives the same results as Race 2 or Vertical 2 during sleep 🙂

I’ve just received my watch. First impression: despite its larger size, it’s much more comfortable than my S9PP on my small wrist (just under 15 cm). That was one of my top criteria—and my main concern! So I can try it!

Any leaks about configuration backup or migration feature ?
Setting up again all switches, updating watchfaces and configuring sports again is not a fun 😥
I was asked about it in new feature questionnaire so many times… 😀

Are we sure the processors are identical? Same amount of memory and running at the same clock frequency?

I could see the logic in introducing a 3S. It would be a clear upgrade to my old Race S.

I have more difficulty in seeing the value in a new Race 3 with the same hardware as Race 2? Having recently bought a Race 2 when I tired off waiting for the Race 2S, I cannot see a compelling argument for upgrading again?
