@dankcushions I am in the USA but I also strongly prefer temperature in Celcius. Suunto Ambit used to support mixed units. Then when a new software was introduced for Spartan series, mixed units were no longer supported.
I don’t see this as a very complicated feature. It would be really great to have this!
Also, while we are here, please make vertical speed unit customizable too with choices between feet/hour, feet/min, meters/hour, and meters/min. When imperial units are selected, vertical speed defaults to feet/hour, which I personally find unusable because the number ends up being too large (typically 2000-4000 ft/hour for me) and changing too much every second. I have hard time processing that. For something like trail running, feet/min makes more sense because it produces small numbers in 30-60 ft/min range (up to 100 ft/min for descents) that are much easier to reason about. In fact the choices that I mentioned above are possible on Garmin watches.

@roblambell said in Imperial for miles, Metric for celcius, and per-sport settings:
units for everything, distance, altitude, pace, and temperature could all be set independently
And vertical speed too, please!
With choices between per minute and per hour (see my other comment). -
@sky-runner we are really asking this, for a while now. Not implemented yet, but I heard the request finally arrived at the decision level

easily toggle between them during an activity (configurable long presses - with an option being to toggle units - during activity??), would be my preference!
whenever doing an activity with someone without a watch, they often want to know a metric I share with them in a different unit so this’d be really great in that scenario

Hello - This is my first post, so sorry if I have done it wrong. I recently have bought a race 2 and love it, but do have the same frustration that I cant mix my units between metric for celcius and imperial for distance. Is this feature expected to come in the distance future?

@charlieyorke1 Generally, Suunto does not give a timeline of expected new features. As far as I know, this has not been addressed.

On a related note, it’d be great to be able to use mixed units when creating interval workouts. Maybe this sounds bonkers to those raised completely on the metric system, but in the US we runners use mixed units. My workout today from my coach: warm up 2 miles, then pyramid intervals workout (200m, 400m, 600m, 800m, 1000m, and back down, with 200m recovery jog between each), then cool down 2 miles.
I’d like to program my intervals I might run during a track workout in metric (100m, 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m, 1000m, etc), but because our brains are used to Imperial, I always want to see my pace in minutes-per-mile. If my watch is set to Imperial (the only way I can see my pace in minutes-per-mile), I can only create distance intervals like 00.14 miles. Technically, 200 meters is 0.1242742 miles, but I can’t select that. I don’t absolutely need that much precision for my amateur workouts, but it just seems like it’d be very simple to implement, since the watch probably stores everything in meters anyway.
Similarly, our common race distances are mixed (5k, 10k, 10mi, 20mi, 50k, 50mi, 100k, or 100mi), but most of us always want to see our pace in minutes-per-mile because that’s how we’re used to pacing.
Garmin and COROS have been handling this just fine for years. Feels like second-class status using a Suunto for workouts like this.

Some of us are enlightened and only use metric. 🥳 be wacky and mix things as you wish but don’t claim you speak for all US runners.

@davemaps Combining distance in km with pace in minutes per mile is what I really wanted this summer when I was racing UTMB in Europe.
This is possible with Garmin by the way where pace / speed is a separate unit independent from distance unit.
What is even worse, when distance is in km, vertical speed is tied to that. Even if I choose altitude to be in feet, vertical speed is shown in meters per hour. On Garmin, vertical speed has its own separate unit too.

Also another route to consider, while waiting for Suunto to offer more flexibility, is a system of using power targets for time durations. This is what most people do for cycling structured workouts.
I know my running FTP is 242w and when I don’t have access to a track I can do 20s intervals at a local park that works out pretty close to 100m as shown in this report, then later did a longer effort over 12m just under threshold.

Having a target of 300w+ for those intervals can work as well as a pace target of 3:30/km or faster. So if for some reason one seems allergic to using km for pace or distance consider using watts and time instead?
