So all these people need to carry a big 250g phone

My Samsung S24 Ultra would be awful to run with so i’d have to get like an ipod nano or also run with my old abandoned suunto 7?

Imagine that people carry backpacks, skis, ice axes, equipment used in many sports disciplines, and ride bikes, so there is no point in being dramatic with the phone 😉

This is a huge miss for a fitness watch. How rare is it that you see a runner not with headphones in?

I think Suunto Vertical is more than a fitness watch. And offline music is not a top priority for many.
The next watches may have this option like Suunto Run - this one is more of a fitness watch.

I personally find this trend horrible. Especially when I see people running with huge on-ear headphones. First it’s not very safe, second I would rather prefer to hear my breathing. Open-ear is a different story, but 99% people I see run with on-ear (I bet they also have noise cancelation on because why not).

I have no interest in this feature. Granted many seem to. This is the reason I have stayed with Suunto - simple, functional. One more thing to clutter the UI and to complicate updates etc.

Where I live and run, more runners have no headphones… so not that rare…

I really dislike this trend. Seeing people jog with massive over-ear headphones just bugs me. For one, it’s not safe at all, and I’d much rather be able to hear my own breathing. Open-ear headphones are fine, but almost everyone I see uses over-ear ones—probably with noise cancellation on too, because why not

@eurohiker You are absolutely right that offline music is an important feature for runners and athletes. Currently, the Suunto Vertical (32GB) does not support offline Spotify playlists and cannot upload MP3 files directly, which is a big limitation compared to the older Suunto 7 or other sports devices.

Many people buy GPS watches primarily for running, walking, cycling or swimming, and most of them want to listen to music without having to carry a phone. Having to carry a 250g phone or use another device like an iPod Nano is inconvenient, especially when running or swimming.

Currently, there is no official information from Suunto about MP3 or offline Spotify support on the Vertical, but this is a feature that is highly anticipated by the user community. You can definitely send feedback directly to Suunto, because if enough people request it, the company may consider adding it to the future software update roadmap.

                Summary:

Suunto Vertical does not currently support offline music (MP3 or Spotify).

This is a major limitation for athletes who want to run/swim listening to music without their phone.

Workaround: use an old Suunto 7, a phone, or a separate portable music device.

Recommendation: send feedback directly to Suunto to increase the likelihood of this feature appearing in future updates.
