Hi Suunto. Since Ambit 3 is starting to fall out of support (limited Suunto App features, etc), can you think about releasing the firmware code to the public so that we may have a crack at customising it?

I think that there is a project called openambit with which you can at least pull the fit files…

Thanks BobMiles! Ill check it out!

with the advent of AI and the ambit being so outdated, any chance of reconsediring this? or the communication protocols?
Keen on loosing some time to maybe try to update openambit. -
@André-Faria if all you want is a phone/computer side client to perform the sync, it’s a pretty straightforward process with Claude Code to build your own. Concept as follows:
- Set up a bluetooth packet capture.
- Perform the functions you want your app to be able to do.
- Hand that to Claude Code and tell it to build an app that does that.
This, at least solves the communication protocols part. I’d love the firmware, but I bet there’s IP in there around FusedAlti that Suunto wouldn’t want to open source, even if it’s probably just a well-adapted Kalman filter. I’m going to assume the recovery functions of that watch are considered IP as well, which continues down my path of legal blockers to OS Ambit firmware.
