Unlike the first glance the Vertical (1) and the Race (1) seem to have different internals apart from the display. Or maybe the display itself need to be addressed differently than the AMOLED variant. However, they couldn’t make it a stable release on time, so they postponed it for the Vertical and only relased it for the other watches. But Suunto is still working on it… And yes, there are some features that are exclusive to the Race 2 and Vertical 2, as they have newer, faster chipsets…

@inkognito Re random bug: yup, that’s what I’m worried is the truth. Removing & re-syncing didn’t work for me. I have managed to correct a route that was similarly inconsistent by exporting it, opening it in Plotaroute, deleting all hidden auto-created WPs in the “Directions” panel, downloading, importing to SA, etc. Tedious but so far effective for the routes I consider important enough to bother beforehand. A fix for all? No idea. But if you’ve got such a route you’ll do again … give it a go and report back, please!

@benimardriver said in Unable to get elevation from OS maps gpx on my Suunto vertical watch app: Is this a problem with OS maps or Suunto ? Take your pick: OS Maps exports do not contain altitude information; Suunto does not automatically add it on import. Workarounds: GPS Visualizer: https://forum.suunto.com/post/186073; https://forum.suunto.com/post/186796 Plotaroute.com

it’s a watch face designed for AMOLED displays (developed for the Vertical 2 90° edition), I find that it still looks very good even on the older MIP displays of the V1. [image: 1774131278506-90.jpg] Although on MIP I prefer analog hands. [image: 1774131316072-lanc.jpg]

@Christoph-Van-Laethem thank you, I had the same setup as yours (barring older Stryd and Vertical… Lucky you! ). I see many metrics (and power obviously) but never see Vertical Oscillation nor Ground Contact. I’ve been trying last 2 runs with Suunto+ after disconnecting as sensor… it seems to work so far, I’ll try more. The thing which bothers me is you do not see if Stryd connected when about to start… you start… miss the power info, stop, go to the Stryd app and check, then restart. Not great.

Thanks @duffman19 I checked the settings several times and they are both disabled. I think it’s a software issue. I already contacted Suunto bud it always takes sooooo long to get an answer. So the problem still exists. Kristof

@markman8 AFAIK it is not related to gaskets. It’s a software/hardware issue that was well reported in this forum. It has happened to me once (Summer 2024) and the watch was replaced under warranty. There are also some forum members that had multiple failures (and replacements). It was never disclosed what the actual underlying reason was but the failure is known and quite common. Suunto might not willingly acknowledge it but from a moral standpoint they should.

@Philip A €100 watch can display many metrics, but that doesn’t mean the data quality is comparable. More numbers do not necessarily mean better measurement. We don’t know exactly which computational models Suunto uses on the Vertical 1. Sleep and HRV algorithms are strongly tied to the hardware, especially to the OHR sensor and signal quality. The Vertical 2 uses different hardware and a different optical heart rate sensor. It is plausible that any algorithmic evolutions are designed around the newer sensor and are not backward compatible with the Vertical 1. For this reason, realistically, it is difficult to expect major new implementations on the V1. Future developments are more likely to focus on the newer hardware platform. The price of the device is not the decisive factor. The hardware architecture is. EDIT: From the photos, the Suunto Ocean sensor appears to be the same as the one in the Vertical 1, and the Ocean does report deep, REM, and light sleep stages. So, in theory, the Vertical could inherit those features. That said, I may be oversimplifying. Even if the hardware looks similar, firmware architecture, signal processing, and model calibration can differ significantly between devices.

@Egika In addition to my forum post, I contacted Suunto support with the same information. Their response was either to return the watch for assessment or offer a discount on the purchase of a new watch. Since it’s impossible to know the repair cost before analysis, I find the discount offer appealing.
