Then Suunto better speed up the development of SA and its web frontend… otherwise I see a bunch of unsatisfied customers.

Let’s see what the May update has in store for us!

@jsuarez why with the web unsatisfied? The product is sold without a web (and there are other watches sold like so)

                  • SLEEP TRACKING is a feature that is shared across the Suunto range. However the SLEEP QUALITY assessment is only found on the 3 Fitness model and now the Suunto 5 too…but not the S9.

                  • Similarly, the ALL-DAY STRESS & RESOURCE is on the Suunto 5 as well as the 3 Fitness…but not the S9.

                  XDDDDD
                  I would write the same…

I think just to add on to the points raised here.

Yes I do agree that some of the feature set like fitness, VO2 Max, etc that seems to be found on the S3F should be available in the flagship S9. I think at the end of the day, the flagship watch, given it’s highest price tag, should encompass all the features, and that that the lower tiered models would have fragments of it. End of the day it’s the athlete who decides whether to use them or not. I think this is something I’ve always admired about Garmin as I used to own a few before jumping over.

That said, I feel that the S9 and Spartan line have so much untapped potential. An example would be the Valencell Optical HRM, which is technically best in class (I think) but at the moment, only displays just HRM data. Would be great if they can used to display HRV data instead, which is a very useful data set to have for recovery.

That said, that’s just my opinion and I do hope to see some improvements down the line. The S9 is still a great watch by far, but lots of work to be done where the watch and app is concerned.

@azeanic Be careful though, although manufactured by Valencell, the optical sensors of the Spartan and S.x series are not identical. And consider that the inclusion of these sensors in watches responds to a market logic and not technology. Even today optical sensors do not have the reliability of a chest sensor.

On the flip side, the Suunto 5 has the following features the Suunto 9 doesn’t:

                          – Has stress tracking metrics
                          – Has body resources (aka body battery) metric
                          – Has sleep quality metrics
                          – Has V02Max tracking/metrics
                          – Has adaptive training plans

As I’ve said numerous times before – I simply don’t understand it when a company’s flagship product (Suunto 9) lacks features that a lesser product has. I don’t really even care ‘why’ that is (in this case, likely licensing driven since these are FirstBeat features). All it does is serve to frustrate the very buyers you want most: People who are buying the more expensive thing.

                          LOL

its not a lesser product. ITs a product for a different type of person the progress oriented athlete.

The extra $$ that your S9 costs are material costs among others.

Keep in mind the s3 had also these features and I did not see anyone here complain about it before or after buying the s9 right?

@moe67er include me as well, but that does not give a reason to flame your product with a new product coming out.

It’s true that we all knew the S9 was missing these features but somehow I still feel cheated. For sure I am disappointed to see these features coming to a cheaper watch. Sure hope to see them soon on my S9 baro as well. I’ve been a Suunto user for years but all these recent things like moving from Movescount to SA (which lacks very important things) makes me wonder if I should go for another brand next time.

We just consider it as a joke as missing features from flagship model.

Given that suunto 5 has licensed firstbeat features, I would be surprised if spartan watches get any sort of hrv, vo2 max or any analysis based on readily available watch data via SA or fw updates in the future. It is just not profitable. Easier to sell almost identical new models with these features. (which are nothing new in competitor watches…).
