S9 Baro takes very long to find GPS signal before a move

In my opinion with an AGPS up to 3/4 days old you should not have issues getting a GPS lock in less than a minute and if you sync before the activity do it at least 30 minutes before it.
That is a valuable advice, thank you, will try to do that.
But on the other hand - if I sync every day before the activity, even if watch needs like 15 mins to process the data, it still has AGPS data from the day before…
No it doesn’t has the one from the day before, when it is updating it is like there is no AGPS file, at least in my experience.
-
@cosmecosta OK, so I did soft reset once more, synced in the morning and went for a run in the evening. Got GPS fix in exactly 110 seconds, which is worse than before problems began, but still significantly better than 6-7 min that I had for last 2 weeks.
-
@kabzior
After the soft reset, the first fix can be little longe : the reset will aslo reset the “previous” position data (not only AGPS). -
@kabzior Do you select your exercise indoor? In other words, is GPS active indoor? I noticed on my s9 baro that when I select an exercise indoor and then walk out the door it takes sometimes significantly longer to get a fix then when I select an exercise while I am standing outside.
I’m the last case I almost always get a fix immediately -
@surfboomerang
Starting the GPS fix inside can be counterproductive as the watch starts looking for the satellites it guess to find based on AGPS and last position, but it can’t (in most cases) as it is indoor so it starts the default search.
This can increase the fix time when you go outside and it’s a common GPS “issue”.
But I don’t think it’s @kabzior case here -
@Mff73 yeah, you are right, the next day after reset watch found fix in about 15 sec, just like when it was brand new
unfortunately day after that it took again about 2 min and yesterday 4-5 min
also when entering sport mode watch displayed a message like “sync your watch to suunto app to get best gps accuracy” (never seen that before), but AGPS date in settings was up to date.@surfboomerang @sartoric
I do not select activity when indoor, I go outside the building and do that then, usually before I chose my spotify playlist i get fix, but not those last days now. -
@kabzior
When GPS fix is long, could it be because you are searching GPS in a new location from last one, and “far” from previous one ? If so, then, GPS fix is also a bit longer, as the watch remember the previous location. -
@kabzior There might be something wrong, I cannot remember the last time it took me more than 10-20s to get a GPS fix.
-
@Brad_Olwin same for me. Always a fix in seconds.

That’s not the case, I left home, watch got fix in 20 sec, run to a location, stopped activity, went into building, one hour later left building and in the exact same spot selected activity and fix was not found for about 3 min.

Same for me before all of this started to happen. You think maybe a factory reset should be performed?

Just to be sure, when you say “stopped” do you really mean it or do you mean “paused” ?
-
If it’s a high building, it’s normal.
May you can try in clear area like a parc or on football field? -

I really mean it, I never pause activity.

OK, will do.

I’m having the same issue. Tried soft reset and agps is showing current date, but locking on to gps is taking anywhere up to 4mins
-
@Phil-Powell How long after syncing to the phone did you start the watch, it takes about 15 min to unpack the AGPS data.
-
@Brad_Olwin thanks for the reply. I’ve tried it just after syncing and sometimes a day or so after the last sync. Today was about 20mins after syncing and didn’t seem to take as long. Only had this s9 a couple of weeks so still getting used to it. Do you recommend syncing it before every time that I’m going to use the gps
-
@Phil-Powell
Once a day it’s enough as the agps file is updated daily -
So just sync daily to the app should make a difference. Thanks for the help.
-
@Phil-Powell if you leave your watch connected to the app all the time, you don’t have to do much at all. It will update the AGPS file at night I believe, or first thing in the morning.
-
@isazi I leave it connected to the app and normally sync it after a workout to get the data. But I’ll check that it auto updates the agps. Thanks
