@juza77 That seems bizarre as arm movements should not affect GPS readings. Are you absolutely sure the GPS is active? The watch will interpret distance by movement if the GPS is not turned on.

@Lucadag92 I have the same issues when cycling or running. So you are not unique. I agree that this feature should work better. When I was using my Garmin, it was good enough for steady state runs, but not for workouts. I’d hoped for the same level of performance from my Vertical.

I got a little improvement by switching to a Velcro band, but it’s still not great, and I have to use an external HR strap.

@NicDup and one thing that hasn’t been mentioned here is that the algorithm is very sensitive about the HR and GPS data quality. Any glitch will result in the measurement not to be updated.

While running you need to have HR up in certain zones for some 15 minutes or more. I am not providing any specifics because what I heard from Suunto Support is not in line with the field testers’ instructions here in this forum.

I have had Vertical for a year now and I never seen VO2max yet. But it’s just probably me being too fat and unable to run 15 minutes in Z4-Z5… 😞 And up here in north we have worse GPS coverage and we are experiencing radio signal interference from Mordor.

@Brad_Olwin Okay. I thought screen is same size and Vertical is a little more bit fat from what i remember :P. Even if i take off glasses, MIP of Vertical is perfect for me. Rarely I cant read anything on this watch. Its good both in dark and sun

I had same problem in July/August, I’ve punched few times my Vertical in hand (not too hard), and it worked. It may sounds like lie or joke, but really :D. At this time its impossible to get max on my country anyway.

I have the non solar and love the watch. The battery just isn’t an issue. I get about two weeks between charging with 15 or so hours GPS. (No HR or sleep tracking but notification on)

But must admit I like the look of the Titanium!

I find GPS battery usage at best quality is around 2% an hour. I guess living in the UK there wouldn’t be much solar charging going on anyway🤷🏻‍♂️

Pays your money and takes your choice, I think you’d be happy with what ever version you choose. Personally I couldn’t justify the price difference.

@Brad_Olwin with Stryd that’s work very well but not with the power include on SV.
The algorithm doesn’t take into account the ascent and descents. Hope that will change soon…

The other observation I forgot to add was wrist based power this is only consistent per activity and cannot be transferred from trail running uphill to flat running for example. You can only set one ftp either for flat running or uphill running if you wish to see your power zones accurately. Going uphill vertical kilometre zone 4 effort near threshold will produce low 200 watt range power for me . A simple zone 1 road run flat road will produce 260 watt power.

I still love my suunto vertical please don’t get me wrong I’m not attacking suunto, actually I’m a staunch suunto defender at all times. I just tend to get to the bottom of things and test everything. And I’m sure these findings apply across all brands if tested enough
