No-Map-Problem

Downloaded 2 maps (not adjacent), updated firmware. Soft reset, maps worked for a few runs, then failed for two bike rides. Nothing but black tiles, various zoom levels. Logs sent. Who should I message further details to?
How could it be, our great tester said no issue happened on his watch, you are must lieing
-
@zhang965 I did not say no issues happened. I did say on the current firmware that I have not had crashes or map issues. That’s all. Hope I clarified what I stated for you.
-
Deleted map for my region, re-downloaded, reset, still black tiles. As some have touched on, are there “early” units out there suffering from hardware issues? Also, I have had to calibrate the compass every single day–I thought this was fixed with latest firmware?
What is the next course of action, return to place of sale, initiate a warranty claim? The store I purchased from only has a 30 day window of returns.

Contact Suunto support or return it to the seller.
It’s basically a personal choice -
I also had black map problem just 25km away from my home. It was still same region. When I got back it was still black. Reset did help me and after that it worked almost 500km away with no problem. Haven’t happened since.
Compass seems to be very sensitive to magnets. I just tried with my phonecase. One close swipe over watch causes need for calibration. I wouldn’t worry about it so much. -
@colinmacdon
I support what @Jugger says with the sensitivity for magnets. it’s generally the case for my watches… helmet or backpack locks un-calibrate it very easily.regarding the maps, (in general) this is unlikely related to hardware. I have noticed myself some regions that didn’t work. it’s very difficult to check in advance what regions are affected. often new start of the watch helps. if it doesn’t, we need logs, account details, adjacent map (if applicable) and the area that’s having issues. I’m sure it’s not the entire map that’s affected
-
@isazi @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I have also begun to experience map (rendering) problems with the Vertical. Certain tiles will not render, sometimes at just a certain zoom level, sometimes across all of them. A soft reset will temporarily resolve the issue.
Today’s test in photos: [started exercise - Walk] pic1 - location; pic2 - no map (@500); pic3 - map OK (@200, also @100) [stopped and saved exercise, entered maps from the main menu, NO map shown @500][Suunto app sync, LOGS SENT at 07:53 UTC] [soft reset] [started exercise - Walk] pic4 - map OK (@500, also @200, @100), pic5 - location.
I believe the map (rendering) problem starts to occur when Vertical overheats (e.g. solar charging on a table) and does not go away when the watch cools down (must soft reset).
-
@colinmacdon This is not likely a hardware issue, there may be some map regions that remain problematic. Earlier in this thread are instructions on how to report black tiles and no map issue.
-
@Brad_Olwin
we did that with the logs from 3 days ago. not so with the laatest ones afair -
@Brad_Olwin Thanks I sent the logs to @freeheeler. It just seems strange that problematic regions would work at all, and that a reboot would temporarily fix this issue.
-
@freeheeler yes the compass is not a big deal. It’s just that my Vertical has sat on a shelf for the last 3 days, not near a magnet, and today I open the compass…and it requires a calibration.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I have similar issues, and your solution does not work.
The watch does not even deletes the maps I was able to download.
I did hard/soft reset, re-install the Suunto App… Nothing changes.
When is the next update planned for?
Many thanks! -
I had the problem over the weekend. Strangely enough, exactly this map have always worked so far. After a reboot it works again. But that can not be the purpose.
-
@runomatic
It can exactly be part of the purpose : it can really be something else than the map itself, map not display is the symptom, what is the cause .
I had once also, same as you, working, not working, reset and working again. Still same map and happen once only. -
So even with soft reset after loading the map to the watch, I got black squares again. Whole 371 kilometres during my Ultra ride. Not a pleasant experience.
I bought Suunto Vertical specifically for the maps. Which are not working. This issue has been posted for a long time but still no progress.
I wanted to like Suunto because I like the design and minimalism. But I need a reliable watch so I filed for a refund and will be buying some other brand.

but I’d say without map, without S+ app, without long activities, without swimming, Vertical is still a reliable watch.
Kepp strong.

@zhang965 Sure it is. I’ve been satisfied with every aspect of the watch except for the maps. Unfortunately the maps are deal-breaker for me right now. Hope it’ll be fixed and in the future Suunto products will have no issues with maps, then I’ll join Suunto tribe again

6 months? That was meant ironically, wasn’t it? I expect a somewhat faster response to all the bugs that the watch still has.
