@suzzlo Yep the WHR models do have 24/7 and OHR, it is a good question and could potentially be hardware dependent.

@mraka I stated this in a prior post but the Spartan development was much more significant than the S series, I bought an Ultra when it was released and it is nothing near the watch you have now. Similar complaints were made with the Ambit series upgrades, which I also owned. I think Suunto did an amazing job with Spartan development.

@zhang965 What do not you understand ?
Perhaps Brad had technical information explaining the impossibility of implementing features FB on the all Spartan series

            Race
            S9P with a firmware too
            SSSWHR with a firmware inside
            Ambit 3 Run

I didn’t say SSU is not a good watch, and that it didn’t get updates. Just people are waiting for more much needed (as i read) updates, and i am sure that those are coming, but tell people what is coming and what is not coming in next update. Make honest kind of connection with customers…

Honestly, i prefer SSU over S. But it is just not there yet. Specially for that amount of money, that is my opinion.

                @mraka Re: your earlier post

No disagreement on your wider points of tech business but are you sure you have not fallen into the same trap you describe? Full A3PS integration into SA is a similar ambition/hint/aspiration (“hype bullshit”) rather than promise. Older models may get less and less connectable as the app develops and MC(web)'s continuation becomes a lost dream.

Good point 🙂 Sure i did nice research before i bought my watch. There is no official statement, but from what i have found they will continue to make older models connectable in the future. (ops, just found official statement:
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/2595/may-transition-update) - but its still shallow as hell 😅

But you didnt understand me quite well i think. I didn’t say they give false advertisement for future updates, like they say something is coming and it doesn’t come ever. I sad that they should improve community communication in terms of giving people full announcements, not partial.

@mraka I got your point; I was just interested that you still showed optimism (faith, even: similar to @TELE-HO) in buying the A3PS without guarantee of continued connectivity (and warnings to the contrary). In practice Suunto, for all their lack of transparency on this, got a sale to a cynic.

No criticism: I made (in retrospect) inadvisable assumptions on eventual feature development/recovery on the SSU.

@Fenr1r Optimism and faith come from good research, i didn’t buy it just like that… 🙂 Plus, now they seem to confirm it with this new announcement. And as shallow as it may be, i think that the support will be full (there’s your optimism and faith right there) 🙂

So did I. I bought my SSU on day one for 698.99 € to replace my Ambit 2r. When buying it (August 2016) I thought i had bought the flagship model and not the budget one.

Then I had to realise that this watch performed worse than my Ambit 2r in almost any respect. When it finally was acceptable (May 2018), I began to regain hope. Until (from my perspective) suddenly new models were popping up.

Now I begin to feel that I never bought a flagship model but a dead product unfinished product that never will be finished.

In retrospection, it deeply angers me that I advised people to buy Suunto Spartan models because I hoped for the best.

                          Enough letting off steam…

                            Yes, I do understand,
My spartan ultra,it doesn’t even have a decent “do not distribute” function util the end of 2018, six months after Suunto 9 released.

when spartan ultra releases, we asked why it comes without OHR, they told because OHR is not a stable solution for any kind of sportive,

                                we trusted them.

                                then spartan HR gets out,

@borgelkranz I feel differently. I went from A3P to Spartan, I found the screen much more readable. The OK setting for GPS on my SSU was far, far better than the 5 sec fix on the A3P. The A3P distance to waypoints was direct, as the bird flies and on the Spartan it was not. For me these were definite and important upgrades. I used my SSU a lot until the S9, which I purchased expressly for battery life. Perhaps you should state what was missing from the SSU that you needed. For me, nothing and had the S9 not improved on functions that I need and use, I would still have my SSU. I would prefer not to have OHR.

As an old ambit 3 user, I search everywhere in Spartan Ultra for the Vo2max and recovery test.

I read the user guide in three different languages and I realized there is no such things.

@zhang965 Agreed, I would have liked to have the recovery test, the S9 does not have this either. I found it useful. VO2 max on the other hand I consider more or less useless. My laboratory VO2 tests do not match the watch, perhaps that is me but I more or less ignore the VO2. With 24/7 OHR I think a much better job of recovery could be done and I wish this was a focus.

@borgelkranz My commiserations. I picked up mine a bit after that May '18 revision, when it seemed that the bugs had been ironed out and the hardware (still mostly pretty good) had finally got FW just about worthy of it. And just before the newer ones emerged. My price was … less.

and my SSU’s baro is finally dead a couple of months age,

as Suunto gives the first production two years guarantee, I replaced the watch.
