Exactly, the removal of a web viewer will certainly be Suunto’s death as a serious sports oriented company…it’s sad

@Bruno-Tavares hi I completely agree with you, even do I sent a support request to the suunto but they reply only with one quote “sorry to hear that… etc.” but they don’t know when or if some feature/updates will come to SSU. Probably will take the course on something similar to your choice… Suunto took Movescount, VO2, and last update brake my GPS, support told me to reset the watch to defaults etc… but still it won’t work, my GPS does not catch fix. Sometimes I need to wait around 30/50 minutes and that also does not help.

So guess you have a faulty watch.

If you have a SSU, you are in the last firmware and you have problems fixing the GPS, the problem could come for a corrupted update or problems with the AGPS. The SSU, which I have until 4 days ago was getting signal within 10 seconds always or nearly always.

Check the AGPS, try a soft reset o reinstall the firmware.

I never haven’t got a garmin but I know they release a new model every years or two.
How long they support the old model. They add a new feature or just update a bug fix?

@Mi_chael I had plenty of Garmin devices in the past years (Fenix 2, 3, 3HR, 5, 5S, Instinct, Edge 520). They normally release plenty of updates in the first months because when people start buying devices lots of bugs get discovered. After that it slows down, but there are bugfixes and some new features for a 18 months more or less. When a device is surpassed by a newer model, updates decrease to a minimum, basically for serious bugs. This year, surprisingly, there were some top of the line functionalities that were backported to already released devices, e.g. from the Fenix 6 to the Forerunner 945.

I think this is the same for all brands. When you have bought an iphone 6, it is upgraded with the new features of the 7 and the 8, but when the X has come, your device can’t be upgraded… unfortunatly we’ve got the 6…
In my opinion, the biggest problem is the comunication of Suunto. When the iphone 6 was not able to be upgrade Apple clearly tell that to the users

@ink357 I think it might be a bit sadder than that. The 6 had pretty solid software through its supported life which ceased just before the upgrade to pain … iOS 13 - not a tragic loss. The SSU lived most of its life far below its capabilities, on highly criticised FW. I’m not sure anyone really ended up frustrated with their 6 when the X came out.

For sure there is different degree of programmed obsolescence, suunto is at worst … without any communication.
They can’t say they made a mistake with the SSU but it is the thuth. This is a realy good watch with a shitty battery!
What is realy new on S9 ? A realy battery to ultra exercise and what else ? Wrist cardio ? Accuracy ? I don’t think, just read the users advice…

Honestly, wish I’d stayed with Garmin!! Suunto have shocking software and it is so glitchy!! The watch simply isn’t recognised by SuuntoLink and I’ve done everything I can to update The firmware but my laptop won’t recognise the watch.
Customer support were less than useless and have said I’ll have to wait 48hours for a response. Sadly experience has taught me it’ll be a week at least.

Everyone should spread the word that Suunto is crap for software!! I have watches and dive computers from Suunto but the support software is shocking. I’ll never buy this rubbish again if it can’t be correctly supported!!

@Neil-Sinar sorry to hear about your unacceptable experiences with support, which I have experienced in a somehow similar way. As long as there were questions about software or features the (german speaking) support has been useless, too - this forum has been much better, but it is not a substitute. On the other hand Suunto support about any hardware issues has been the best by far that I have ever experienced!
About the Garmin experiences: not that I am content with the current overall development status of SA, as there is room to improve feature-wise, I have never experienced long term issues with the Suunto software. All activities have been transferred perfectly and completely. And that is not what I experienced with Garmin at all: crappy, buggy watch-software and on the smartphone, too, losing quite some data, so I am rather happy, that I changed back to Suunto again after a 1,5 year stint with Garmin.
This is just my 2 cents and add another perspective. And I am no ‘Suunto fanboy’ as you might recognize in my other posts, and I am very interested in other alternatives and developments, but these simply are my experiences.

using a Suunto Vertical & Suunto Wings; mostly running (AKA stomping around) and cycling mostly through the northern german "wilderness"

                              A doubt.
Is the FW update necessary to have a training planner?
