Random reboots of the Suunto 7 during recording an activity
-
Hi, today i’ve experienced something similar. After only 3 weeks of receiving my watch, and doing my first treeking with it… it’s very annoying.
The problem occured after nearly 3 hours, following a track, when I raised my arm to check that I was in the correct direction, suunto app get blocked and the activity was not being shown. The screen it was showing is the one with the options before starting an activity, but the first options were shown in white. I tried to go out from the app and back, and even i couldn’t to start a new activity again. I tried to finish the app in application menu, but without success. I restart the watch, and then I could start a new activity, .
I hope that this problems are going to be solved soon, as we are some that have experienced the same. -
@olymay no problems on my watch since the last factory reset. Tilt-to-powersave is deactivated and does not activate by Suunto wear app. I can scroll through the screens during recording an activity as often as I want. With loaded route and without. No crashes.
Before I had 4 crashes and after every crash I did a factory reset. After the last one the problem disappeared.

For the title to power save please set the preference and then reboot the watch!
that should make it remember the setting. this is fixed for the next release
-
This is exactly what I did following your previous post, and it worked.
However, when tracking a route, going to the map screen seemed to override this and force the ‘power saver tilt’ to turn back on, which in turn crashed the Suunto Wear App.
It seems like, for the time being at least, I will only be able to track a run using the default data screen. I will not be able to switch to switch to the map screen.
Very frustrating.
-
@olymay could it be some routes issues? Eg area of the map downloaded? It could kinda explain the “per user issue on this”
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I have tried it on three separate routes now (although all of these routes have been in roughly the same area).
The watch tells me that local maps and each route have been downloaded when I put it on to charge.
I strongly believe it is the ‘power save tilt’ that is causing the issue.
I also do not believe there is any benefit to this option, as the AOD is always too bright, so does not need to be brightened up further to read it.I will persevere and try a few more combinations and will feed back my findings.
-
ok @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos, thanks. It’s good to hear a fast response from you, and that Suunto is working on it.
The week before I did a factory reset and maybe I forgot to desactive the option “power saver tilt”, so I will try with this fixed and a new route as soons as possible.
Usually, I don’t use this option, I go with AOD activated, gestures desactivated and power save tilt desactivated (allways suunto official watchfaces). In addittion, I indicate other problems related, that could help the developers:
- During the activity when I experienced the problem, all the times that I switched to the screen of alttitude, it went very slow and get blocked most of the times.
- In my everyday use, despite I have “power save tilt” and “notifications preview” desactivated, when I receive a notification it wakes the screen. But it seems that the watch only wakes when I make the gesture to see it (because of the inconscient movement after the vibration). So again… and issue with the “power save tilt”.

Could you comment here with:
Sport mode used. If custom then ask for screenshots of the sport mode displays configuration.
When it happens what was the last display they remember (map view, 4-field data, 5-field data, HR graph…)
Did they exit the app while recording?
Did they receive a phone call?
Did the music controls pop-up
Something else? -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Here is my info…
I use the standard (basic) running mode, following a route.
If I stay on the default data screen, all is ok. Scrolling to the map view seems to trigger the problem.
I do not exit the app whilst recording as I want my info shown all of the time. The crash/reboot exits the app for me.
I do not receive a phone call and this would not be possible as I do not take my phone with me.
The music controls do not pop-up as I have the auto launch media controls off.
If you need anything else, please ask.
(I will reiterate, I believe it to be linked to the power saver tilt funtion).

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Here is my info:
- Sport mode: custom of trekking with: 4 fields screen, 3 fields screen, altitude graphic screen, map screen
- Last display: map view, but I’m not really sure
- Exit the app while recording: No, it get blocked on the map screen view with the options in blank (I put the image in a comment above)
- Phone call: no
- Music controls: no (airplane mode)
-
@olymay thanks

Same here, it seems I’m also affected by the bug now. If I go to the map, the app is not capable of going back to low power mode. The activity is recorded, but I cannot stay in the app anymore, I’m forced to the watch face.

Hi again (yes playing the man in the middle )
Do you have always on map enabled or disabled? Or does it happen with both values?

In my case, always on map disabled (save battery mode)
I always run activities in this mode. -
@isazi This is EXACTLY what is happening to me
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I usually run with always on map ENABLED as I don’t like the small delay in the screen waking up.
But I have tried it with this setting both enabled and disabled and the problem is there regardless.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I have not found any difference, the problem occurs in both cases on mine and two other S7s.
-
@olymay so I tried another activity, and the watch was still in the “faulty” mode, therefore I was thrown back to the watch face without even having to check the map. Then did a restart of the watch, and now it is working properly again, although I did not check the map (because I did not need it, and because I feel it would trigger the bug again).
-
I am not long back from doing a run. I did the exact same 10K route as the previous three runs and I tracked the route as I did before.
All of the settings on the watch were exactly the same as the my previous run.The difference this time was I did not scroll away from the default data screen.
The watch did not crash!
Therefore, I now very strongly believe that by scrolling to the map view, this re-activates the ‘power save tilt’ (I have verified that it does do this) which in turn causes the Suunto Wear App to crash.
Suunto developers, please take note, the ‘power saver tilt’ is crippling the Suunto 7. Please, please, please fix this bug or permanently disable this feature.
