I read a lot of posts here describing dissatisfaction with Suunto because this feature isn’t present, or doesn’t perform correctly, or not in the same way/ doesn’t produce the same data as ‘another brand.’ As such, I thought I’d make a little ‘thank you’ post, based on my experience of using my Ambit 3 Peak and Race earlier this week. It’s not meant to be a blow-by-blow account, so I’ll keep it short.
On Wednesday this week, I planned to climb Scafell Pike, the tallest peak in England, at 978m (please don’t laugh, you Alpinists)! Weather was clear and the forecast was good. Unfortunately, at around 917m the weather turned very quickly, and I experienced my first ever solo white-out, which was not what I was expecting at all. With all of the very rocky paths now covered in snow and ice, I elected to re-trace my steps and get down as quickly and safely as possible. The navigation provided by the Ambit and Race was absolutely invaluable and allowed me - a fairly inexperienced but enthusiastic hillwalker - to make my way to safety.
Suunto may not provide some features that others (Garmin/ Polar/ Corus) provide, but my watches didn’t miss a beat for me, when I was in some difficulty!
So…Thanks a lot Suunto!
