I think it is already too late to suggest improvements for the next update. Whatever will be there is likely already at the final stages of testing. But in general I am looking forward further improvements in such core features as offline maps, navigation, tracking of on-route waypoints, turn guidance, and elevation guidance. Every single of the above needs further improvements. I cold probably make a separate long post about each of these areas - what is lacking in each of these areas for me as a trail runner and how it can be improved. My first priority would be to make trails more visible on the map when zooming out. In the current implementation trails become very thin, borderline invisible, at 0.5 km/mile zoom level and completely disappear at 1 km/mile zoom level. Suunto already has heatmap data. Perhaps Suunto could find a way to use that to determine which trails are more popular and should be prioritized on the map when the map is zoomed out. Perhaps the second priority would be to make elevation data more accurate. When I plan routes in Suunto App, the total elevation gain is routinely up to 20% under of what is actually measured by the watch when I complete the route. That is especially bad on a rolling hills terrain, but even in big mountains with large climbs, elevation gain is almost always at least 10% less than actual. That also affects climb guidance for individual climbs because it is based on the same flawed low accuracy data. Also, it would be really awesome to enable Suunto App to store maps offline and to allow making a new route and transfer to the watch while in activity in wilderness without having data on the phone. That would be a powerful feature that would, to a large degree, alleviate inability to route on the watch. It should already be possible to transfer new routes to the watch on the fly, but that currently requires having mobile data on the phone, which makes it much less useful for many of us.

@wakarimasen Yeah it is real. I have come off being healthy for a minute though and it is interesting how terrible Garmin is at tracking health metrics. I think that they work if you are living the healthy life and stay within the lines for the most part. Plus you have the endless drumbeat of the cult telling you everything else is garbage because it doesn’t have a flashlight or music. Two problems easily solved without paying over $1000 for a watch. I am much more in tune with my body and where I am at with training with Suunto. I think you will be too. This wakarimasu.

Hi Suunto team, I love using my Suunto Race – it’s an amazing watch with great performance and design. One feature I (and many other users) would really love is the ability to set a custom background image on the watch face. Even a simple option through the app would make a huge difference and add a personal touch. Please consider adding this in a future update Thank you for your great work! – Liel Gershberg

@MKPotts Thanks a lot for getting back to me! You’re totally right — there’s no graph data for those three days. That’s a shame, the data could’ve been really useful. It’d be great if the watch gave a warning before the memory gets overwritten.

Just to report that after the update I lost all the paired devices I had a doubt. Yesterday, right after the update, I did a soft reset (right button up pressed for 10s), so to be sure I did it again and found that paired devices are removed because of that, so the update was flawless. Sorry guys!!

Had the same problems, and replaced the strap by a more breathable from Suunto. Still if I forget to loosen the watch after workouts and wear it all time I get skin irritation at the sensor area. Then I switch wrists at least during sleep. I don’t think its the sensor but the charging poles maybe they contain some irritating metals and in combination with sweat and pressure it irritats the skin. I haven’t been tested positiv on metal allergies but sometimes I have problems with metal buttons on trousers, sometimes not with the same button.

Merci ! Björn

Hi all! My Android mobile phone can connect and be paired with my Suunto 5, but it keeps on pairing once both devices are connected. Obviously, no performance data is automatically synced. The app and softwares are updated. What might be the problem? Thanks!

Interesting take! A lightweight Suunto with Stryd support would be a game-changer for runners. I doubt they’ll add it, but if they did, I’d consider it too. The T6c was legendary—2000 miles is impressive!

100% agree after testing out the Suunto Race. It would be nice to see the full text for POI notifications, like the notifications you get from Race Companion (the SuuntoPlus app). That would be ideal, then you wouldn’t have to manually switch back and fourth between data screens and the map to check which is the correct fork on a trail. I would love for this to be fixed. I’ve disabled turn-by-turn altogether because of the confusing timings (being notified either way too soon in advance, or about future turns before reaching the current one). Or another suggestion that might be a bit easier to implement as an additional option: Whenever you’re set to the map screen, a simple beep just before a turn would work nicely as a reminder to check which way to head next. That’d be ace too

Now that the Finnish summer vacations are over, let’s try again! The reason I ask is because on Oura ring, “technical limitations” are cited as reason that 33 is the lowest heart rate it can measure. For comparison, I have recorded some nights with Polar OH1. The lowest numbers it has shown have been 30, 31 and 32 with reasonable graphs but who knows about the accuracy… I did in fact upgrade from 9B to 9PP after all and so far it has measured 32 and 33 a couple of times. We’ll see what happens when it’s time for a marathon taper

@Mister-PYC I would love if Suunto had two different lock options. One that locks everything like now. And one that allowed you to do everything except pausing or stopping an activity. Let me do laps, zoom on the map, change to the climb guide on the elevation profile and so on. Without the risk of stopping the activity.

@arpoodle This is in the manual, all you have to do is set an intensity zone for HR, Pace or Power during your workout. Not available for cadence but the Cadence S+ app will do this.

I’m using the apex 2 pro strap on my vertical. I had a nylon strap from amazon before. But it was far too rigid and got a fixed bend in the fabric where I normally had it set up. So I couldn’t make small adjustments anymore as it just jumped back to the bend. I wasn’t a fan of my apex 2 pro. But coros definitely has the nicest nylon strap that I’ve used.

Had the same problem the last days. The calibration only works if you are constantly running the same pace. Warmup, Cooldown, Intervalls - everything completly off Treadmill mode os not usable that way, a manual calibration for different paces would probably help
